Jean-Pol Fargeau
Jean-Pol Fargeau is a French screenwriter and frequent collaborator of writer-director Claire Denis. They have made ten films together, most notably '' Chocolat'' (1988), ''Beau Travail'' (1999), and ''35 Shots of Rum'' (2008). Career Jean-Pol Fargeau is a French screenwriter who has often collaborated with director Claire Denis. With Denis, he co-wrote '' Chocolat'' (1988), ''Beau Travail'' (1999), and ''35 Shots of Rum'' (2008), '' Bastards'' (2013) and Denis' first English-language film, ''High Life'' (2018). As of 2019, the two had made ten films together. In a 2013 interview, Fargeau said of their collaboration, “It’s very strange, this partnership and relationship — we are like brother and sister,” albeit unusually free of strife for siblings. Claire Denis (; born 21 April 1946) is a French film director and screenwriter. Her feature film ''Beau Travail'' (1999) has been called one of the greatest films of the 1990s, as well as of all time. Other acclaimed works include '' Trouble Every Day'' (2001), '' 35 Shots of Rum'' (2008), '' White Material'' (2009), '' High Life'' (2018) and '' Both Sides of the Blade'' (2022), the last of which won her the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival. For her film '' Stars at Noon'' (2022), Denis competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. She won the Grand Prix, sharing the award with Lukas Dhont's film ''Close''. Chocolat (1988 Film)
''Chocolat'' is a 1988 French period drama film written and directed by Claire Denis in her directorial debut that follows a young girl who lives with her family in French Cameroon. Marc and Aimée Dalens (François Cluzet and Giulia Boschi) play the parents of protagonist France (Cécile Ducasse), who befriends Protée ( Isaach de Bankolé), a Cameroonian who is the family's household servant. The film was entered into the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. Plot An adult woman named France walks down a road toward Douala, Cameroon. She is picked up by William J. Beau Travail
''Beau Travail'' (, French for "good work") is a 1999 French film directed by Claire Denis that is loosely based on Herman Melville's 1888 novella '' Billy Budd''. The story is set in Djibouti, where the protagonists are soldiers in the French Foreign Legion. Parts of the soundtrack of the movie are from Benjamin Britten's 1951 opera based on the novella. Synopsis Adjudant-Chef Galoup of the French Foreign Legion reflects on his life from his home Marseille. He recalls his time in Djibouti, where he led a section of men under the command of Commandant Bruno Forestier. Galoup admired and envied many of Forestier's qualities, including his clear affection from the men, and retains a wristband with Forestier's name. Stephen Holden (born July 18, 1941) is an American writer, poet, and music and film critic. Biography Holden earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Yale University in 1963. He worked as a photo editor, staff writer, and eventually became an A&R executive for RCA Records before turning to writing pop music reviews and related articles for ''Rolling Stone'' magazine, ''Blender'', ''The Village Voice'', ''The Atlantic'', and '' Vanity Fair'', among other publications.
