Jean-Paul Van Gastel
Jacobus Johannes Martinus Paulus "Jean-Paul" van Gastel (; born 28 April 1972 in Breda, North Brabant) is a retired football midfielder from the Netherlands, who obtained five caps for the Dutch national team, scoring twice. Currently, he is the Head Coach of Guangzhou City in the Chinese Super League. Club career Van Gastel started his professional career in 1990 with Willem II, where he stayed for six seasons, before moving to Feyenoord. There he won the Dutch title (1999). He moved to Italy in 2001 and played for Ternana Calcio (Serie B) and Como Calcio 1907 (Serie A). He ended his career in 2003 with De Graafschap. Coaching career In the end as a player, he worked from 2004 to 2005 as Head Coach of the U-19 team of Willem II. On 30 June 2005, he began his coaching career with the U-19 of Feyenoord. The 2017–18 KNVB Cup was the 100th season of the annual Dutch national football cup competition. It commenced on 19 September 2017 with the first of six rounds and concluded on 22 April 2018 with the final at De Kuip in Rotterdam. The defending champions were Vitesse from the Eredivisie, who beat AZ 2–0 in the final in the previous season on 30 April 2017. The 2016–17 Eredivisie season was the 61st season of the top-tier Dutch League Eredivisie since its establishment in 1956. The fixtures for this season were announced on 14 June 2016. Teams A total of 18 teams took part in the league: The best fifteen teams from the 2015–16 season, two promotion/relegation playoff winners and the 2015–16 Eerste Divisie champions. Sparta Rotterdam, the champion of the 2015–16 Eerste Divisie, returned to the Eredivisie after spending six seasons in the Eerste Divisie, whereas play-off winner Go Ahead Eagles returned to the Eredivisie after just one season. The Johan Cruyff Shield (, ) is a football trophy in the Netherlands named after Dutch footballer Johan Cruyff, also often referred to as the Dutch Super Cup. The winner is decided in one match only, played by the winner of the national football league, Eredivisie, and the winner of the national KNVB Cup. In the event of a team winning both the Eredivisie and the KNVB Cup, the Johan Cruyff Shield will be contested between that team and the runner up in the national league.
