Jean-Paul Beugnot
Jean-Paul Beugnot (25 June 1931 – 7 February 2001) was a French professional basketball player and coach. Standing at 2.07 m (6' 9 ") tall, Beugnot played at the power forward and center positions. He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players, in 1991. He was inducted into the French Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004. He was awarded the Glory of Sport in 2013. Club career Playing career During his playing career, Beugnot played with the French club Étoile Charleville-Mézières (1955–1967). With Étoile Charleville-Mézières, he won two French League championships (1958 and 1960), and two French Cups (1958 and 1959). He was also the Best Scorer of the French League's 1962–63 season. Coaching career Beugnot also worked in Étoile Charleville-Mézières, as a player-coach. He was the club's head coach (1956–1958). The France men's national basketball team (french: Équipe de France de basketball) represents France in international basketball and is administered by the French Federation of Basketball. France is currently ranked fifth in the FIBA World Rankings. France has been a regular at the EuroBasket, qualifying for 39 appearances all-time. Éric Beugnot (born March 22, 1955) is a French former professional basketball player. Standing at 2.00 m (6' 6 ") tall, Beugnot played at the shooting guard and small forward positions. Professional career During his pro career, Beugnot played with the French clubs Le Mans, AS Monaco, ASVEL, and CRO Lyon. He won 3 French League championships, in the years 1978, 1979, and 1982. National team career Beugnot was a member of the senior French national basketball team. With France, he played in 212 games, from 1975 to 1987, scoring a total of 2,493 points. He played at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. The 1955 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1955, was the ninth FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA. Basketball at the 1960 Summer Olympics was the fifth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. 16 nations were admitted into the Olympic tournament, with many others being eliminated in a pre-Olympic tournament held earlier in the year from 13 to 20 August 1960 at the Land Rover Arena at Bologna. 64 games of basketball were played in the Olympic tournament that was held at the Palazzetto dello Sport and PalaLottomatica, both in Rome. The 16 teams were split up into four groups for the preliminary round. Each team played every other team in its group once. The top two teams in each group advanced to the semifinals in two pools of four, while the lower two teams were sent to a consolation semifinal for 9th through 16th place.
