Jean-Michel Lavallière
Jean-Michel Lavallière (born December 10, 1990) is a Canadian retired Paralympic swimmer who competed at international swimming competitions. He is a six-time Parapan American Games silver medalist and has competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics and 2018 Commonwealth Games. Paralympic Swimming
Para swimming is an adaptation of the sport of swimming for athletes with disabilities. Para swimmers compete at the Summer Paralympic Games and at other sports competitions throughout the world. The sport is governed by the International Paralympic Committee. Both men and women compete in para swimming, racing against competitors of their own gender. Swimming has been a part of the Paralympic program since the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy. Rules Rules for the sport are adapted from those set forth by the International Swimming Federation (FINA). Swimmers compete individually in backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, individual medley, and as teams in relay races. 2018 Commonwealth Games
The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games and also known as Gold Coast 2018, was an international multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that were held on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, between 4 and 15 April 2018. It was the fifth time Australia had hosted the Commonwealth Games and the first time a major multi-sport had an equal number of events for male and female athletes. 4,426 athletes including 300 para-athletes from 71 Commonwealth Games Associations took part in the event. Canada competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia from 4 April – 15 April 2018. It was Canada's 21st appearance at the Commonwealth Games, having competed at every Games since their inception in 1930. On 6 October 2016, two time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Claire Carver-Dias was named as the chef de mission of the team. For the first time ever, there has been entry quotas set for all sports and therefore each country is restricted in the number of athletes it could enter. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of movement disorders that appear in early childhood.
