''Alphaville: une étrange aventure de Lemmy Caution'' (''Alphaville: A Strange Adventure of Lemmy Caution'') is a 1965 French New Wave science fiction neo-noir film directed by Jean-Luc Godard. It stars Eddie Constantine, Anna Karina, Howard Vernon and Akim Tamiroff. The film won the Golden Bear award of the 15th Berlin International Film Festival in 1965. ''Alphaville'' combines the genres of dystopian science fiction and film noir. There are no special props or futuristic sets; instead, the film was shot in real locations in Paris, the night-time streets of the capital becoming the streets of Alphaville, while modernist glass and concrete buildings (that in 1965 were new and strange architectural designs) represent the city's interiors. Gérard Fromanger
Gérard Fromanger (6 September 1939 – 18 June 2021) was a French visual artist. A painter who also employed collage, sculpture, photography, cinema, and lithography, he was associated with the French artistic movement of the 1960s and 1970s, called ''Figuration Narrative'' (new figurative representation), somewhat like pop art. Fromanger was alsi associated with photorealism. Fromanger studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where his first solo exhibition was held in 1966. ''Souffles'', his large translucent "half-balloon" street sculptures, attracted attention in 1968. He also collaborated with Jean-Luc Godard to make the short "Film-tract 1968". Urban life and the consumer society are themes well represented in his work. Jean-Pierre Gorin
Jean-Pierre Gorin (born 17 April 1943) is a French filmmaker and professor, best known for his work with ''French New Wave, Nouvelle Vague'' luminary Jean-Luc Godard, during what is often referred to as Godard's "radical" period. Jean-Pierre Gorin was a student of Louis Althusser, Michel Foucault and Jacques Lacan. He was a radical leftist well before meeting Godard in 1966. Godard relied on some of his discussions with Gorin while writing the script of 1967's ''La Chinoise''. Gorin played a role in making ''Joy of Learning, Le Gai Savoir'', which was released in 1969. In 1968, Gorin and Godard founded the collective Dziga Vertov Group and together produced a series of overtly political films including ''Wind from the East, Vent d'est'' (1970), ''Tout va bien ''(1972), and ''Letter to Jane ''(1972). The Dziga Vertov Group (french: Groupe Dziga Vertov) was formed around 1969 by politically active filmmakers including Jean-Luc Godard and Jean-Pierre Gorin. Their films are defined primarily for Brechtian forms, Marxist ideology, and a lack of personal authorship. History The roots of the project began with Godard's increased collaboration with other politically-motivated filmmakers, such as the group project ''Cinetracts'', the incomplete 1968 film ''One A.M.'' shot with D.A.
