Jean-Loup Rouyer
Jean-Loup Rouyer (4 August 1945 - 28 December 2007) was a professional tennis player from France. Biography Born in Remiremont, Rouyer began playing tennis at the age of 12. He was a graduate of the École Polytechnique in 1965. Tennis career Rouyer represented the France Davis Cup team in three doubles rubbers, which all came in the 1970 Davis Cup competition with Jean-Baptiste Chanfreau, against Switzerland, Austria and Spain. They won two of those matches, over the Swiss pairing of Dimitri Sturdza/Matthias Werren and Austrians Hans Kary/ Peter Pokorny. In 1971 he made the quarter-finals of Grand Prix tournaments in Catania and Eastbourne, then in 1972 reached further quarter-finals at the Italian Open in Rome and the Suisse Open Gstaad. Remiremont (; german: Romberg or ) is a town and commune in the Vosges department, northeastern France, situated in southern Grand Est. ''New Nation'' was a weekly newspaper published in the UK for the Black British community. Launched in 1996, the newspaper was Britain's Number 1-selling black newspaper. Stanley Roger Smith (born December 14, 1946) is an American former professional tennis player. Smith is best known to non-tennis players as the namesake of a popular brand of tennis shoes. A world No. 1 player and two-time major singles champion (at the 1971 US Open and 1972 Wimbledon Championships), Smith also paired with Bob Lutz to create one of the most successful doubles teams of all-time. The Grand Prix tennis circuit was a professional tennis tour for male players that existed from 1970 to 1989. The Grand Prix and World Championship Tennis (WCT) were the two predecessors to the current tour for male players, the ATP Tour, with the Grand Prix being more prominent. Background Before the Open Era, popular professional tennis players, such as Suzanne Lenglen and Vincent Richards, were contracted to professional promoters. Amateur players were under the jurisdiction of their national (and international) federations. Later professional promoters, such as Bill Tilden and Jack Kramer, often convinced leading amateurs like Pancho Gonzales and Rod Laver to join their tours with promises of good prize money. Peter Pokorny (born 25 July 1940) is a former professional Austrian tennis player who was active in the 1960s and 1970s. His best singles result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round at the 1971 French Open after a first round win against Bob Giltinan. In the second round he lost to Nicola Pietrangeli in four sets. At Wimbledon he qualified for the main singles draw in 1966, 1969 and 1973 but did not manage to make it past the first round. Dimitri Sturdza
Dimitri Sturdza (born 10 November 1938), also known as Tim Sturdza, is a Swiss former professional tennis player. Biography Born in Iași, Sturdza is a descendant of a Romanian aristocratic family and later settled in Lausanne. He is of Norwegian descent on his mother's side and travelled on a French passport. Outside of tennis he holds a master's degree in atomic physics and was involved with the European space program. Sturdza made the third round of the French Open once and was a Davis Cup player for Switzerland from 1964 to 1978, winning 17 rubbers. His best Davis Cup singles wins were over West Germany's Wilhelm Bungert in 1966 and France's Georges Goven in 1970.
