Jean-Louis Roy (director)
Jean-Louis Roy (; 1938 – 29 March 2020) was a Swiss film and television director. Biography From an early age, Roy frequented the cinemas of Plainpalais in Geneva. At the age of 12, he arranged film screenings with other children in his neighborhood. At the age of 16, Roy was hired by René Schenker to work at Télévision Genevoise, which would become Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR), as a sound producer. Due to the uncertainty for the future of television, Roy simultaneously began a photography apprenticeship. At TSR, he became cameraman, then a film editor, notably working for Claude Goretta. Goretta taught Roy cinematographic writing, allowing Roy to move to directing in 1963. The following year, he won the Rose d'Or with ''Happy End'', and Roy prided himself in showing that Switzerland's cinematography could compete with that of other nations. This would drive him to shoot a spy film, ''The Unknown Man of Shandigor'' in 1967, although the film was seen as not Swiss enough. ... Plainpalais
Plainpalais is a neighbourhood in Geneva, Switzerland, and a former Municipalities of the canton of Geneva, municipality of the Canton of Geneva. Claude Goretta (23 June 1929 – 20 February 2019) was a Swiss television producer and film director. Rose D'Or
The Rose d'Or ('Golden Rose') is an international awards festival in entertainment broadcasting and programming. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) first acquired the Rose d’Or in 1961, when it was created by Swiss Television in the lakeside city of Montreux. The awards stayed with the EBU for almost 40 years. The EBU re-acquired the awards in 2013 and successfully re-launched the event that year in Brussels, then relocated to Berlin from 2014 to 2018. In 2014 the event took place on 17 September in Berlin, Germany. For the first time in its 53-year history, the competition categories were extended to include radio and online video programmes in addition to the traditional focus on television. The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Orchestre De La Suisse Romande
The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (OSR) is a Swiss symphony orchestra, based in Geneva at the Victoria Hall. In addition to symphony concerts, the OSR performs as the opera orchestra in productions at the Grand Théâtre de Genève. History Ernest Ansermet founded the OSR in 1918, together with Paul Lachenal, with a contingent of 48 players and a season of six months' duration. Besides Swiss musicians, the OSR players initially came from other countries, including Austria, France, Germany and Italy. Ansermet gradually increased the percentage of Swiss musicians in the orchestra, attaining 80% Swiss personnel by 1946. He remained the music director of the OSR for 49 years, from 1918 to 1967.
