Jean-François Caron
Jean-François Caron (born 21 May 1957 in Loos-en-Gohelle, Pas-de-Calais) is a French politician and a member of Europe Écologie–The Greens. He is Mayor of Loos-en-Gohelle since 2001, re-elected in 2008 with 82.09% of the vote by the first round. He was originally a member of the left-wing of Ecology Generation, close to Noël Mamère and finally joined the Greens in 1997. He was elected regional councillor in Nord-Pas-de-Calais in 1992 and was the Greens' top candidate in the region in the 2004 regional election winning 6.28% of the vote. He is also vice president of the Agglomeration community of Lens - Liévin in charge of environmental affairs. In 2009, he was selected to be Europe Écologie–The Greens' candidate in Nord-Pas-de-Calais Nord-Pas-de-Calais (); pcd, Nord-Pas-Calés); is a former administrative region of France. Loos-en-Gohelle
Loos-en-Gohelle is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography A former coal mining town, three miles northwest of the centre of Lens, at the junction of the D943 and the A21 autoroute. Its nearest neighbours are Lens to the south, Grenay to the west, Hulluch to the northeast and Bénifontaine to the east. The two largest (184 m & 182 m) spoil heaps in Europe are found here. History The place was first documented in 1071, as "Lohes". The name has changed considerably over the years: Lothae, Lo, Lohes, Loes, Loez and Loos. It was not until 1791 that the name of "Loos" was officially sanctioned. According to some, the name comes from the Germanic "Lôh" and Dutch "Loo" which mean "wood", but there is no archaeological evidence of what could have been a forest. Ecology Generation
Ecology Generation (french: Génération écologie) is one of the four green parties in France, along with Europe Ecology – The Greens (), the Independent Ecological Movement (), and Cap Écologie. Founded in 1990 by Brice Lalonde, Environment Minister, upon the suggestion of President François Mitterrand, it describes itself as a club with cross-party alliances of green-minded politicians and public servants. It moved away from the "presidential majority" in 1992, when Brice Lalonde left the cabinet. Noël Mamère
Noël Mamère (born 25 December 1948 in Libourne, Gironde) is a French journalist and politician. He was the mayor of Bègles in Gironde as well as deputy to the French National Assembly for that constituency. He was for several years a member of the party Europe Écologie–The Greens, but left it in late September 2013. Biography Noël Mamère rose to fame in the 1980s as a journalist and anchorman, in particular on Antenne 2. In 1992, he became president of Brice Lalonde's ''Ecology Generation'' party, from which he was expelled in 1994. He then founded "Ecology-Solidarity Convergences", of which he was president, before joining ''Les Verts'' in 1998. In 2002, he was presidential candidate and garnered 5.25% of the votes. 2004 French Regional Elections
Regional elections in were held in France on 21 and 28 March 2004. At stake were the presidencies of each of France's 26 regions which, although they do not have legislative powers, manage sizeable budgets. The results were a triumph for the parties of the left, led by the French Socialist Party (PS) in alliance with minor parties including the French Communist Party (PCF), the Left Radical Party (PRG) and The Greens (''Les Verts''). The left has usually fared moderately well in regional elections, but this was their best result since the regional system was introduced. Regional elections were held in France on 14 and 21 March 2010. At stake were the presidencies of each of France's 26 ''régions'', which, though they do not have legislative autonomy, manage sizable budgets. The elections resulted in significant gains for the French Socialist Party (PS) and its allies, who went on to control 21 of the 22 regions of Metropolitan France. Situation Following the 2004 elections, which saw an historic victory of the left, largely led by the PS, only Alsace and Corsica were still run by the UMP.
