Jean-Charles Skarbowsky
Jean-Charles Skarbowsky (born March 10, 1975) is a French former kickboxer and 3-time European Muay Thai champion. Skarbowsky has been called one of the best ''farangs'' who have fought in Thailand. Biography and career His mother emigrated at age 25 from Romania to France. After a flying start to his career, both in France and Thailand, where he accumulated a number of quick victories, he broke his right hand in 1997 while defending his title again in Europe. After two years of forced shutdown, he resumed his career in 1999 and made a stunning return to the highest level, overcoming the pessimistic prognosis of the doctors. In 2010, Skarbowsky appeared on the twelfth season of the American mixed martial arts reality television show ''The Ultimate Fighter'', where he was the Muay Thai coach on Georges St-Pierre's team. Welterweight
Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. In most sports that use it, welterweight is heavier than lightweight but lighter than middleweight. Etymology The first known instance of the term is from 1831, meaning "heavyweight horseman," later "boxer or wrestler of a certain weight" by 1896. This sense comes from earlier "welter" "heavyweight horseman or boxer" from 1804, possibly from "welt", meaning "to beat severely", from 15th century. Muay Thai ( th, มวยไทย, , ), sometimes referred to as Thai boxing, is a combat sport that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This discipline is known as the "art of eight limbs", as it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins. Muay Thai became widespread internationally in the late 20th to 21st century, when Westernised practitioners from Thailand began competing in kickboxing and mixed-rules matches as well as matches under muay Thai rules around the world. The professional league is governed by The Professional Boxing Association of Thailand (P.A.T), sanctioned by The Sports Authority of Thailand (S.A.T.). Lumpinee Stadium
Lumpinee Boxing Stadium ( th, สนามเวทีมวยลุมพินี) is a sporting arena in Bangkok, Thailand. The stadium is named after Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha. Opened more than a decade later than Rajadamnern Stadium, Lumpinee is run by the Royal Thai Army. It has become the symbol of modern Muay Thai. Only Rajadamnern Stadium rivals the prestige of holding the title of "Muay Thai Champion of Lumpinee". The ranking system and championship titles are held from mini flyweight (105 lb) up to super welterweight (154 lb). Muay Thai bouts are held on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. He is the former WBC World Middleweight Muay Thai champion, which he won on February 25, 2007, over Steven Wakeling. He was known as Ramsongkram Suwanharnjabee before he moved to Chuwattana Gym. Ole Laursen
Ole 'Iron Fist' Laursen (born August 21, 1977) is a Filipino-born Danish Welterweight Muay Thai kickboxer and mixed martial artist, he competed in K-1 and in ONE Championship. Early life Laursen was born in Manila, Philippines to Danish father and a Spanish-Filipino mother and moved to Denmark with his family when he was two years old. Laursen got involved with martial arts through his older brother Christian, and was 15 when he began training in Muay Thai. Laursen currently lives in Ubon Ratchatani, Thailand and fights out of his own Legacy Gym. Laursen trained with Peter J McCarthy, the subject, director and producer of the documentary, Fight of Flight which won "Best Foreign Documentary" at the Long Island Film Festival, New York as well as three other "Best Documentary" awards at festivals in Hamburg, Toronto and California.
