Jean-Baptiste Côté
Jean-Baptiste Côté (30 May 1832 – 9 April 1907) was a Canadian architect, wood-carver, glider, wood engraver, caricaturist, publisher, and printer. His reputation rests on his wood engravings, and on his being one of Canada's earliest cartoonists. Life and career Jean-Baptiste Côté was born to Jean-Baptiste Côté and Hélène Grenier in the Saint-Roch, Quebec City, Saint-Roch parish in the Old Quebec, Lower Town of Quebec City. The elder Côté worked as a carpenter in the shipbuilding yards near the Rivière Saint-Charles. Côté became apprenticed as an architect to François-Xavier Berlinguet around 1850. Côté lacked a strong interest in architecture and turned to wood-carving, going into business for himself decorating ships—shipbuilding at the time employed almost half the population of the city. Musée National Des Beaux-arts Du Québec
The Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec ( en, National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec), abbreviated as MNBAQ, is an art museum in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The museum is situated in Battlefield Park and is a complex consisting of four buildings. Three of the buildings were purpose-built for the museum. One building was initially built as a provincial prison before being repurposed for museum use. The institution was opened as the Musée de la province de Québec in 1933. The museum was a provincial archives, arts, and natural science museum until 1962, when the natural science collection was removed. In the following year, the museum was renamed the Musée du Quebec. The provincial archives were relocated from the museum in 1979, leaving the institution with only an arts collection. In 2002, the museum was renamed the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. François Évanturel
François Évanturel (October 22, 1821 – March 12, 1891) was a Quebec lawyer, journalist and political figure. He was born in Quebec City in 1821, the son of a soldier in Napoleon's army who had joined the British Army after having been taken prisoner. He studied at the Petit Séminaire de Quebec from 1832 to 1841, articled in law with René-Édouard Caron and was called to the bar in 1845. He set up practice at Quebec City. Évanturel served in the local militia, becoming captain. He was a member of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society and helped found the Institut Canadien, serving as its first treasurer. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada in an 1855 by-election in Quebec County as a member of the parti bleu. In 1857, he was elected to the board for the North Shore Railway. He was defeated in the same year when he ran for election in two different ridings. A rebus () is a puzzle device that combines the use of illustrated pictures with individual letters to depict words or phrases.
