Cindy Jaynes
Cindy Louise Jaynes (born 1959) is an American retired rear-admiral. An aeronautics maintenance specialist, she managed several programs relating to US Navy aircraft. Jaynes became the first female flag officer in Naval Air Systems Command when she was promoted to rear-admiral on 1 August 2012. She retired from the US Navy on 1 May 2016. Career Cindy Jaynes grew up in Greensburg, Pennsylvania and was awarded a bachelor of sciences degree in mathematics education in 1979 followed by a master's degree in mathematics in 1982 from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Jaynes had considered a career as an actuary or a veterinarian but was persuaded by a high school friend to join the US Navy for four years whilst she considered her future. She attended the US Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and was commissioned in March 1983. She was assigned as an aeronautics maintenance officer in 1985. Dwight Jaynes is a journalist and sportswriter in Portland, Oregon. He was a sports columnist with ''The Oregonian'' newspaper for several years. In 2001, he left to become president and write a column in the fledgling ''Portland Tribune'' and to do a daily radio show for KPAM, a talk radio station owned by the same company as the Tribune. He left his radio role and worked full-time for the ''Tribune'', serving as the paper's editor and sports columnist until leaving at the end of July 2008. Jaynes has been highly critical of the management of the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers franchise under the ownership of Paul Allen, particularly over the hiring and performance of Maurice Cheeks as head coach. Edwin Thompson Jaynes
Edwin Thompson Jaynes (July 5, 1922 – April 30, 1998) was the Wayman Crow Distinguished Professor of Physics at Washington University in St. Louis. He wrote extensively on statistical mechanics and on foundations of probability and statistical inference, initiating in 1957 the maximum entropy interpretation of thermodynamics as being a particular application of more general Bayesian/information theory techniques (although he argued this was already implicit in the works of Josiah Willard Gibbs). Jaynes strongly promoted the interpretation of probability theory as an extension of logic. In 1963, together with Fred Cummings, he modeled the evolution of a two-level atom in an electromagnetic field, in a fully quantized way. This model is known as the Jaynes–Cummings model. Jeremy Jaynes (born 1974) is currently an entrepreneur and business consultant living in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jaynes is best known for some of his earliest online ventures that involved the act of e-mail spamming, broadcasting junk e-mail from his home in North Carolina, United States. While he was ultimately acquitted, he was the first person in the world to be charged with "felony spam", i.e., sending spam without allegation of any accompanying illegal conduct such as theft, fraud, trespass, defamation, or obscenity. His acquittal was granted by the Virginia Supreme Court ruling unanimously the law Jaynes was prosecuted under violated the First Amendment. On March 30, 2009, the Supreme Court of the United States refused the Virginia Attorney General's petition for a writ of certiorari to review the decision of the Supreme Court of Virginia overturning the anti-spam statute.
