Scouting in Kansas has a long history, from the 1910s to the present day, serving thousands of youth in programs that suit the environment in which they live. Early history (1910−1950) The Brewer Scout Cabin in Solomon, Kansas, Solomon is on the List of Registered Historic Places in Kansas, National Register of Historic Places. Mrs. Fern E. Sears was the organizer of the first Kansas City, Kansas council of Girl Scouts and author of a book on Christian symbols, "Let Me Speak". She trained Girl Scout leaders and established troops in Kansas City, Kansas in 1948 when the area qualified for a council, called the Santa Fe Trail council. Mrs. Sears was named first president, and was an honorary life president at the time of her death on August 24, 1959. Walsenburg, Colorado
The City of Walsenburg is the Statutory City that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Huerfano County, Colorado, United States. The city population was 3,049 at the 2020 census, down from 3,068 in 2010. History Walsenburg was originally settled under the name of La Plaza de los Leones in 1859. The settlement was named after settler Don Miguel Antonio de Leon, who came along with others from New Mexico. A post office called Walsenburg has been in operation since 1870. Stilwell is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Kansas, United States, and part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The ZIP Code for Stilwell is 66085. History Stilwell had its start when the Missouri Pacific Railroad began to plan to extend the railroad from Kansas City into the south. The railroad was initially planned to run through the town of Aubry, but due to the topography, the railroad decided to place the tracks a half mile to the east. This lead Michael O'Keefe, J. Larkin, W. A. Kelly, and A. J. Norman to file a plat for Mt. Auburn in 1886, which would eventually become Stilwell. Junction City is a city in and the county seat of Geary County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 22,932. Fort Riley, a major U.S. Army post, is nearby. History Junction City is so named from its position at the confluence of the Smoky Hill and Republican rivers, which forms the Kansas River. In 1854, Andrew J. Dover is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. It is located southwest of Topeka. History Settlers came in the year 1856. The Sage and Bassett families in Dover came from Somersetshire, Bristol. Dover was made a voting precinct of Auburn Township, October 1, 1860, and in the fall of 1867, was erected into a township. E.M. Hewins was the first trustee; Jacob Haskell and George Harden, justices. The first postmaster was Alfred Sage, appointed in 1862, and the family name, Sage, is still widespread in the area today. The town of Dover was named after Dover, New Hampshire. Scouting in Missouri has a long history, from the 1910s to the present day. Early history (1910-1950) According to William D. Murray, a charter member of the Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) when it incorporated on February 8, 1910, the first "Troop" to form in Missouri was formed by an Englishman in Sedalia, MO sometime in 1908 or 1909. In his 1937 book "The History of the Boy Scouts of America" he goes on to say that this man had even gone so far as to appoint field representatives in other states as well.
