Jayani Dissanayake
Jayani Tissera Dissanayake was the 3rd Chief Minister of North Central Province. She was appointed on 15 April 1999 succeeding Jayasena Dissanayake and was Chief Minister until June 1999. She was succeeded by her husband Berty Premalal Dissanayake. Dissanayake is a trained teacher of Mathematics. Berty Premalal Dissanayake
Berty Premalal Dissanayake (15 July 1954 – 27 September 2013) was the chief Minister of the North Central Province of Sri Lanka from June 1999 to 2012. He was of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and part of the United People's Freedom Alliance. He died on 27 September 2013. Early life Berty Premalal Dissanayake was a Sri Lankan politician who was active in the political scene in the late 20th century. Born in Anuradhapura in 1954, he received his education in both Anuradhapura and Colombo before entering into active politics in 1977 under the guidance of Kekirawa SLFP councilor A.M. Jinadasa. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party ( si, ශ්රී ලංකා නිදහස් පක්ෂය, translit=Śrī Laṁkā Nidahas Pakṣaya; ta, இலங்கை சுதந்திரக் கட்சி, translit=Ilaṅkai Cutantirak Kaṭci) is one of the major and most well known political parties in Sri Lanka. Duminda Dissanayake (born 28 March 1979), Member of Parliament, MP, is the current Sri Lankan Cabinet Minister of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, Ministry of Irrigation, former Minister of Agriculture, deputy minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development and a Member of Parliament from the Anuradhapura District. Chief ministers in Sri Lanka are elected heads of the provincial boards of ministers, bodies which aid and advice the governors, the heads of the provincial government, in the exercise of their executive power. The governor appoints as chief minister a member of the provincial council who, in his opinion, commands the support of a majority of that council. There are nine chief ministerial positions in the country, out of which only six are currently occupied, while 3 are vacant and under the governor's direct rule. North Central Province ( si, උතුරු මැද පළාත ''Uturumæda Paḷāta'', ta, வட மத்திய மாகாணம் ''Wada Maththiya Mākāṇam'') is one of the nine provinces of Sri Lanka, the first level administrative division of the country. The provinces have existed since the 19th century but did not have any legal status until 1987 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of Sri Lanka established provincial councils.
