''Jaws.io'' is an action video game based on the 1975 American horror film ''Jaws''. It was developed by Puerto Rican company SRG Studios and published by Universal Studios Interactive Entertainment LLC for iOS and Android devices, and was released on February 14, 2019. The game's servers were shut down on October 31 the same year and is no longer available for download. Gameplay Inspired by ''Agar.io'', ''Jaws.io'' is a multiplayer game where the goal is pick up or eat (depending on whether the player is controlling a ship or a shark) as much as possible, in order to obtain the highest score in time-limited matches. Players would take on the role as the captain of a boat rescuing civilians of Amity Island stranded out at sea. As players sailed around picking up civilians, they were to use power-ups to combat against other boats as well as the titular Jaws. ''Jaws'' is an American natural horror film series that started with a 1975 Jaws (film), film that expanded into three sequels, a theme park ride, and other tie-in merchandise, based on a 1974 Jaws (novel), novel. The main subject of the saga is a great white shark and its attacks on people in specific areas of the United States and The Bahamas. The Brody family is featured in all of the films as the primary antithesis to the shark. The original film was based on a novel written by Peter Benchley, which itself was inspired by the Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916. Benchley adapted his novel, along with help from Carl Gottlieb and Howard Sackler, into the 1975 film ''Jaws (film), Jaws'', which was directed by Steven Spielberg. Although Gottlieb went on to pen two of the three sequels, neither Benchley nor Spielberg returned to the film series in any capacity.
