Jawad Rumi Daini
Major General Jawad Rumi Daini (born ca. 1948) is a former general in the Iraqi Army who currently lives in exile in Egypt. Daini fought in the Iran–Iraq war, and served in the Iraqi Army under the Baathist government until he was forced into retirement in July 1990 after it was discovered that his brother was a member of the Badr Brigade. After the invasion he was faced with the problem of whether to join the Iraqi Army or the Iraqi insurgency. Eventually he was asked to join the new Iraqi Army and was enlisted in January 2004. Under his command he established the 2nd Brigade of the 6th Division. He was eventually forced into retirement following three major events. He was one of the two Iraqi commanders overseeing the Al-Aaimmah bridge when the 2005 Baghdad bridge stampede occurred. Al-Aaimmah Bridge
Al-Aimmah Bridge ( ar, جسر الأئمة, Jisr al-'Ā'immah, lit=Bridge of the Imams) is a bridge over the river Tigris in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. The bridge links the areas of A'dhamiyyah, which is a majority Sunni Arab area, from its east bank, with the Shi'te area of Kadhimiyyah on its west. A'dhamiyyah is where the mosque of Sunni Imam Abu Hanifah is located. (in Arabic) Kadhimiyyah is where the Mosque of Shi'ite Imams Musa al-Kadhim and Muhammad al-Jawad is located. (in Persian) History It was the place of a deadly stampede on the 31st of August 2005, when hundreds of Shiite pilgrims were crushed. The stampede caused the railings to give way, allowing hundreds to fall to their deaths in the river. Nouri Maliki
Nouri Kamil Muhammad-Hasan al-Maliki ( ar, نوري المالكي; born 20 June 1950), also known as Jawad al-Maliki (), is secretary-general of the Islamic Dawa Party and was the prime minister of Iraq from 2006 to 2014 and the vice president of Iraq from 2014 to 2015 and 2016 to 2018. Al-Maliki began his political career as a Shia dissident under Saddam Hussein's in the late 1970s and rose to prominence after he fled a death sentence into exile for 24 years. During his time abroad, he became a senior leader of the Islamic Dawa Party, coordinated the activities of anti-Saddam guerrillas and built relationships with Iranian and Syrian officials whose help he sought in overthrowing Saddam. Al-Maliki worked closely with United States and coalition forces in Iraq following their departure by the end of 2011. Al-Maliki was Iraq's first full-term post-war prime minister. A death squad is an armed group whose primary activity is carrying out extrajudicial killings or forced disappearances as part of political repression, genocide, ethnic cleansing, or revolutionary terror.
