Serbian Cyrillic
The Serbian Cyrillic alphabet ( sr, / , ) is a variation of the Cyrillic script used to write the Serbian language, updated in 1818 by Serbian linguist Vuk Karadžić. It is one of the two alphabets used to write standard modern Serbian, the other being Gaj's Latin alphabet. Karadžić based his alphabet on the previous Slavonic-Serbian script, following the principle of "write as you speak and read as it is written", removing obsolete letters and letters representing iotified vowels, introducing from the Latin alphabet instead, and adding several consonant letters for sounds specific to Serbian phonology. During the same period, linguists led by Ljudevit Gaj adapted the Latin alphabet, in use in western South Slavic areas, using the same principles. As a result of this joint effort, Serbian Cyrillic and Gaj's Latin alphabets for Serbian-Croatian have a complete one-to-one congruence, with the Latin digraphs Lj, Nj, and Dž counting as single letters. Serbia is mountainous, with complex geology and parts of several mountain ranges: Dinaric Alps in the southwest, the northwestern corner of the Rila-Rhodope Mountains in the southeast of the country, Carpathian Mountains in the northeast, and Balkan Mountains and the easternmost section of Srednogorie mountain chain system in the east, separated by a group of dome mountains along the Morava river valley. Sjenica
Sjenica ( sr-cyr, Сјеница, ) is a town and municipality located in the Zlatibor District of southwestern Serbia. The population of the town, according to 2011 census, is 14,060 inhabitants, while the municipality has 26,392. Sjenica is situated in the Pešter plateau, and is surrounded by the mountains of Jadovnik, Ozren, Giljeva and Javor. History It is an old town, first mentioned in 1253 AD as a place where many merchants rested and paid taxes while on their way to Dubrovnik. ''Voivode'' Stefan Vasoje, the son of King Stefan Konstantin (r. 1321–1322), received Sjenica as an appanage by Emperor Stefan Dušan (r. 1331–1355). During the reign of the Ottoman Empire, Sjenica was used as a fortified site. On a nearby hill the Ottomans built a fortress, which was later demolished. Memorial Cemetery (Javor)
Memorial Cemetery, Javor is located on Mount Javor, near the town of Ivanjica, Serbia. It is known as monumental mark "Major Ilić", in the central part of the cemetery. The cemetery is located in the area where the decisive battle took place in the Serbo-Turkish War (1876–78), which is also known as Javor war. The cemetery is now one of the cultural monuments of great importance as immovable property, built in gratitude to Serbian soldiers killed in battle on Javor mountain in 1876. Not far from the cemetery, there is a faucet of Vasilije. At the memorial cemetery on Javor seven thousand Serbian soldiers were buried. They died in Kalipolje on Ivanjdan, on 6 July 1876. Among the mounds in the cemetery of heroes of Javor, a monument to major Mihailo Ilić was built on 24 June 1907, who was the commander in chief during the fight and was credited for the victory of the Serbian army in the battle of Javor, and later in other battles of the Sandzak.
