Darab County ( fa, شهرستان داراب) is located in Fars province, Iran. The capital of the county is Darab. At the 2006 census, the county's population was 172,938, in 39,955 households. Retrieved 30 October 2022 The following census in 2011 counted 189,345 people, in 50,595 households. At the 2016 census, the county's population was 201,489, in 59,525 households. Shahid Behesti University ( fa, دانشگاه شهید بهشتی , Dāneshgāh-e Shahid Beheshti) (formerly known as the National University of Iran) is a public research university in Tehran, Iran. The university offers many programs at Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. levels. History Shahid Behesti University was founded in 1959 by Ali Sheikholislam. The university was planned to be devoted to graduate studies. At its opening, it consisted of two schools: Architecture and Urban Planning, and Banking and Economics, with 174 students. Soon the School of Literature and Foreign Languages began in downtown Tehran. The first graduate academic degree program was the Master's course in the School of Architecture, launched in 1961. Darab ( fa, داراب, translit=Dārāb) — formerly Darabkert, or Darábgerd ("city of Darius")— is a city and capital of Darab County, Fars Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 54,513, in 13,279 families. Historical background Darab is one of the oldest cities in Iran, and is mentioned in the Persian epic ''Shahname'' by Ferdowsi. Legend ascribes the foundation of the city to Darius I, hence its earlier name Daráb-gerd (Darius-town). In the neighborhood there are various remains, including the Kalah i Daráb (citadel of Darius), which consists of a series of earthworks arranged in a circle around an isolated rock.
