Jasrotia
Jasrotia is a Dogra Rajput warrior clan from the Jammu region of India, of Suryavanshi lineage, following Sanatan harma. Jasrotia surname is derived from Jasrota in Hiranagar tehsil which was capital of Jasrota kingdom till 1815 where they once ruled. Their members inhabit in the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. Defence services have remained their first choice of profession and are largely found working in the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Airforce. The major group of Jasrotia Rajputs are found in Mandi in the Poonch district. Ajay Singh Jasrotia
Major (rank), Major Ajay Singh Jasrotia, Sena Medal, SM (31 March 1972 – 15 June 1999) was an Indian military officer with the 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (13 JAK RIF) who laid down his life during Kargil War to save the lives of his six comrades. He was deployed in Sopore in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir (state), Jammu and Kashmir when the Kargil War broke out. 13 JAK RIF under the command of Lieutenant general, Lt General then Colonel (India), Colonel Yogesh Kumar Joshi was moved to the Dras sector as a reserve force. On 15 June 1999, the base camp came under heavy artillery shelling and six of his soldiers were injured. Amidst heavy artillery shelling which continued unabated, he evacuated the wounded to safety by carrying them on his back. While rescuing the last soldier he was fatally wounded by shrapnel. Arjun Singh Jasrotia
Captain Arun Singh Jasrotia, AC, SM (16 August 1968 - 15 September 1995) was an Indian military officer in the 9 Para (Special Forces). He was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, the highest peace time military decoration in India. He was also recipient of Sena Medal. On 15 September 1995, terrorists attacked Jasrotia's team in Lolab Valley in Jammu and Kashmir. In retaliation, Jasrotia killed a terrorist with his commando knife and neutralized the other terrorists by lobbing grenades at them. This gave his team an opportunity to take control of the situation and eliminate the remaining terrorists. But Jasrotia sustained gunshot wounds in the process and succumbed to the injuries. Jasrota kingdom in the Himalayan foothills of India was founded in 1064 A.D at south-eastern Jammu between the Ravi and the Ujh rivers which ended in 1815. The remainants of Jasrota kingdom exists as ruined forts, restored temples, water bodies and canals in Hiranagar tehsil, Narowal tehsil, Nagri tehsil, Kathua tehsil, Marheen tehsil, Dinga Amb tehsil, Ramkot tehsil, Mahanpur tehsil, Billawar tehsil. Ashoka Chakra (military Decoration)
The Ashoka Chakra (alternative spelling: Ashok Chakra) is India's highest peacetime military decoration awarded for valor, courageous action, or self-sacrifice away from the battlefield. It is the peacetime equivalent of the Param Vir Chakra (PVC) and is awarded for the "most conspicuous bravery or some daring or pre-eminent valour or self-sacrifice" other than in the face of the enemy. The decoration may be awarded either to military or civilian personnel. Poonch or Punch (''Prūntčh'' In Kashmiri) is a district in the Jammu Division of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Border Security Force
The Border Security Force (BSF) is India's border guarding organisation on its border with Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India, and was raised in the wake of the 1965 war on 1 December 1965, "for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with".
