Jason Smith (New Zealand Politician)
Jason McLaren Smith (born ) is a New Zealand politician and environmentalist who served as the mayor of Kaipara from February 2018 to 2022. Prior to entering politics he was a farmer and businessman. Early life and career Smith was born in Dargaville in New Zealand's Northland Region, but raised 30 km south in Ruawai. He is a fifth-generation resident of the Kaipara District, but went to school at King's College in Auckland. From 1991 to 1994 he studied in Cirencester at the Royal Agricultural University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in agriculture and land management. He later went on to serve as a research intern for the European Parliament, living in Luxembourg. By 1997 he had returned to his home district of Kaipara and started his own eco-tourism company called Kauri Country. Mayor Of Kaipara
The mayor of Kaipara officiates over the Kaipara District of New Zealand's North Island. The current mayor is Craig Jepson. History Kaipara District was formed through the 1989 New Zealand local government reforms. Graeme Ramsey was Mayor from 1998 to 2004. In 2012, the district council was sacked by the government and replaced with commissioners over a proposed 31 per cent increase in rates to cover the costs of the Mangawhai Community Wastewater Scheme. Some component of local democracy was restored for the 2016 local elections and full self-management was granted from the 2019 local elections onwards. 2020 New Zealand General Election
The 2020 New Zealand general election was held on Saturday 17 October 2020 to determine the composition of the 53rd parliament. Voters elected 120 members to the House of Representatives, 72 from single-member electorates and 48 from closed party lists. Two referendums, one on the personal use of cannabis and one on euthanasia, were also held on the same day. Official results of the election and referendums were released on 6 November. Ronald Matthew King (born 1967) is a former New Zealand politician who was a Member of parliament, Member of Parliament for the New Zealand National Party, National Party from 2017 to 2020. During his time as an opposition MP, King's roles included membership of the Justice, Māori Affairs, and Transport and Infrastructure Select Committees, and National's spokesperson for Regional Development (North Island), Rural Communities, and Transport. Willow-Jean Prime
Willow-Jean Prime (née Downs; born 1983) is a New Zealand politician who was elected to the New Zealand Parliament at the 2017 general election as a list representative of the New Zealand Labour Party. At the 2020 election, she won the electorate of Northland by 163 votes, the closest election of the 2020 cycle. Personal life Prime is of Te Kapotai, Ngāti Hine and Ngāpuhi descent and grew up in Northland.
