Jason Gunn
Jason Gunn (born 26 December 1968) is a New Zealand television and radio personality. He is known for '' The Son of a Gunn Show, What Now, Dancing with the Stars, Wheel of Fortune'', and ''The Rich List'', and also afternoon shows on radio stations Classic Hits and More FM. Early career Gunn said he learned many of his presenting skills in his first few months at Christchurch from the experienced children's TV crew and presenters around him. He hosted '' After School'' (1989) and co-hosted '' The Son of a Gunn Show'' (1992–1995) and '' Jase TV'' (1992) with his sidekick Thingee, a grey puppet with bulbous eyes. Gunn and Thingee also starred in ''Jase and Thingee's Big Adventure'', a straight-to-video kids movie based on ''The Son of a Gunn Show''. The Hits (radio Station)
The Hits is a Hot adult contemporary music radio network, broadcasting to 26 markets across New Zealand. It was set up by Government broadcaster Radio New Zealand in 1993 by consolidating existing stations into a single brand and has been privately owned since 1996. The Hits has had the broadest broadcast reach of any radio network in the country since 1996, and is now available on 40 full-power FM frequencies and 18 iHeartRadio streams. Most of the individual stations started out as local AM stations owned by state broadcaster Radio New Zealand. Many have given a platform to broadcasting names like Selwyn Toogood, Paul Holmes, Peter Sinclair, Jenny-May Clarkson (nee Coffin) and Jason Gunn. John "Boggy" McDowell was an announcer on the Southland station for 33 years. NZ On Screen is a state-funded online promotional showcase of New Zealand television and film. Funded by NZ On Air, it provides free worldwide access to NZ-produced television, film and music videos. Content is streamed and the webpages provide authoritative background information. The site was launched in October 2008 and is updated constantly. It provides titles in full or as excerpts, with background notes, photographs and profiles of key cast and crew. ''New Zealand's Funniest Home Videos'' (also known as ''Minties New Zealand's Funniest Home Videos'') was a New Zealand reality television program on TVNZ channel TV2, in which viewers were able to send in humorous homemade videotapes. The show officially began in 1990 and ended in 1993. The show's successor was called ''The Great Kiwi Video Show'', which began in 1995 and ended in 1999. Synopsis The show was mostly made up of clips taken from America's Funniest Home Videos with some New Zealand made clips added into the show. The New Zealand made clips were the only clips eligible to win the prizes. Every week, three videos were chosen by the producers and voted on by the studio audience. ''McDonald's Young Entertainers'' is a New Zealand talent show that aired on TV2 at 6:30pm on Sundays. It was hosted by Jason Gunn, and endorsed by the McDonald's franchise. The show was inspired by ''The Mickey Mouse Club''. Leigh Evans was a choreographer. The series was broadcast from 30 March 1997 to 18 September 1999. Many episodes ended with a live cover of "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)" by Diana Ross. The show aired with high ratings among young audiences, but was cancelled within two years in late 1999. Independent country artist Ainslie Allen appeared on the show. The National Youth Theatre Formerly known as the National Youth Theatre Company is a not-for-profit organization that runs musical theatre training workshops and musical productions in New Zealand. It was established in 2005, with the aim of providing opportunities for young people to participate in performing arts training. Thingee
Thingee is a puppet which was used as an unofficial ambassador and icon for New Zealand children's television during the 1990s, appearing in multiple television shows such as ''The Son of a Gunn Show'', and also children's programme, ''What Now''. He appeared on T-shirts, dolls, puzzles and advertising all over New Zealand. He was voiced by '' After School'' camera operator and director Alan Henderson, who died on 15 February 2020. Appearance Thingee was usually presented as a grey (with brown undertones) humanoid thing with large bulbous eyes, a large toothless snout and a domed head. In a similar manner to the ''Rainbow '' characters Zippy and George, he was generally shown from the shoulders up, with one arm.
