Jason Demetriou (footballer)
Jason Demetriou ( el, Τζέισον Δημητρίου; born 18 November 1987) is a Cypriot international footballer who plays as a defender for Southend United. In October 2021, Demetriou also took temporary charge of the Southend first team as interim head coach. Career Leyton Orient Demetriou came through the youth ranks at English club Leyton Orient and signed his first full professional contract with the team in July 2006. He made his league debut in November 2006 when he came off the bench in a 0–0 draw with Yeovil Town. He went on to make 24 appearances in his first year, in both league and cup competitions, mostly as a substitute. The 2007–08 season was a breakthrough season winning the young talent award for Leyton Orient. Greek Cypriots or Cypriot Greeks ( el, Ελληνοκύπριοι, Ellinokýprioi, tr, Kıbrıs Rumları) are the ethnic Greek population of Cyprus, forming the island's largest ethnolinguistic community. According to the 2011 census, 659,115 respondents recorded their ethnicity as Greek, forming almost 99% of the 667,398 Cypriot citizens and over 78% of the 840,407 total residents of the area controlled by the Republic of Cyprus. AEK Larnaca FC ( el, AEK; for short Αθλητική Έvωση Κίτιον Λάρνακας , translit=''Athletiki Enosi Kition Larnakas'', "Athletic Union Kition of Larnaca") is a Cypriot professional football club based in Larnaca. The club was formed in 1994 after a merger of two historical Larnaca clubs, EPA Larnaca and Pezoporikos. The club also has a men's basketball team, a women's volleyball team and a men's futsal team. The club's name comes from the ancient Greek city of Cyprus, Kition, which was located on the site of today's Larnaca. The colours of the club are yellow and green, and their emblem is admiral Kimon, who died at the seafront while defending the city of Kition circa 450 BC, in a fight against the Persians. UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifying
The UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying tournament was a football competition that was played from September 2014 to November 2015 to determine the 23 UEFA member men's national teams joining the automatically qualified host team France in the UEFA Euro 2016 final tournament. A total of 53 national teams participated in this qualifying process, with Gibraltar taking part for the first time. The draw took place at the Palais des Congrès Acropolis, Nice, on 23 February 2014.
