Jasmine Flury
Jasmine Flury (born 16 September 1993) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer, specializing in the speed events of Downhill Flury won gold in downhill at the 2023 World Championships. Flury made her World Cup debut at age twenty in January 2014, and her first podium was a victory on home country snow, in a Super-G at St. Moritz in December 2017. She has competed in three World Championships and two Winter Olympics. World Cup results Flury made her World Cup debut at age twenty in a downhill at Altenmarkt in January 2014, but had only one additional start that season, with over twenty on the European Cup circuit. The next season she had eight World Cup starts but went without a top thirty result, and concurrently raced in European Cup events. Garmisch Classic
Garmisch Classic is an alpine ski area in the Bavarian Alps of southern Germany, near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria. Its maximum elevation is above sea level at Osterfelderkopf, with a vertical drop of . Other peaks of ski area are the Kreuzjoch at and Kreuzeck at . The area hosted the World Championships in 2011 and 1978, and alpine skiing debuted at the Winter Olympics here in 1936. Run only as a combined event in 1936, the downhill portion was run at Garmisch Classic and the slalom was run at Gudiberg, adjacent to the ski jumps (Große Olympiaschanze). Garmisch Classic is known for the classic Kandahar slope, descending from Kreuzjoch, where the speed events are held for the World Cup and World Championships. Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. "Off-piste" skiers—those skiing outside ski area boundaries—may employ snowmobiles, helicopters or snowcats to deliver them to the top of a slope. 2017 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Super-G
The women's super-G in the 2016–17 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, 2017 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved seven events, including the season final in Aspen Mountain (ski area), Aspen, Colorado (USA). Defending discipline (and overall) champion Lara Gut-Behrami, Lara Gut from Switzerland got off to a great start by winning the first three races, but she suffered a season-ending injury in early February, which led to a tight battle between the two top contenders remaining: Slovenia's Ilka Štuhec and Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather. With just the season finals in Aspen remaining, Štuhec, who had won two races in the discipline and won the season title in the downhill the day before the race, held a 15-point lead over Weirather, but Weirather nipped Štuhec by 0.35 seconds in the finals, giving her the season title by 5 points.
