Jasig is a non-profit US organization founded by a group of university IT personnel in late 1999 with the stated goal of creating Open-source model, open source computer programs for use in higher education environments, mostly written in the Java programming language. Jasig, “a federation of higher ed institutions interested in open source”, is registered as a US 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Central Authentication Service
The Central Authentication Service (CAS) is a single sign-on protocol for the web. Its purpose is to permit a user to access multiple applications while providing their credentials (such as user ID and password) only once. It also allows web applications to authenticate users without gaining access to a user's security credentials, such as a password.
