Jasiel F. Correia, II
Jasiel F. Correia II (born December 11, 1991) is a former mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts. He was arrested twice on charges related to fraud and extortion while in office. Defeated in the November 2019 mayoral election, his term expired on January 6, 2020. In May 2021, Correia was convicted of multiple federal charges in a trial held in Boston; on September 21, 2021, Correia was sentenced to six years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. On April 22, 2022, Correia reported to the Federal Correctional Institution, Berlin, New Hampshire to begin serving his six-year sentence. Political career In 2013, Correia ran for a seat on the Fall River City Council, placing 10th in a field of 18, where the top nine finishers are elected. This is a list of mayors of the City of Fall River, Massachusetts, from 1854 to present. Fall River was led by a three-member Board of Selectmen from 1803 until its re-incorporation as a city in 1854. From 1854 until 1902, mayoral elections were held every year and mayors served one-year terms. In 1902, the mayoral term was increased to two years, which lasted until the city charter was changed in 1965. That year, the mayoral term was again increased, this time to a four-year term. This change would be overturned by voters in 1973 and a two-year term was reinstated. The mayor's office is located at Fall River Government Center.
