Jared V. Peck
Jared Valentine Peck (September 21, 1816 – December 25, 1891) was an American businessman and politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from New York from 1853 to 1855. Biography Born in Port Chester, New York, Peck attended the common schools. He engaged in the lumber, brick, hardware, and building-material business. He served as auditor for the town of Rye in 1844 and 1845. Political career He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Westchester Co., 2nd D.) in 1848. Congress Peck was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress (March 4, 1853 – March 3, 1855). He was not a candidate for renomination in 1854. Later career After leaving Congress, he resumed his former business pursuits. He was appointed warden of the port of New York by Governor Edwin D. Rye is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 49,613 at the 2020 United States census over 45,928 at the 2010 census. It is a separate municipality from the city of Rye. The Town of Rye contains two villages – Port Chester and Rye Brook – and the Rye Neck section of the village of Mamaroneck (the remainder of the village of Mamaroneck is in the town of Mamaroneck). Bayard Clarke
Bayard Clarke (March 17, 1815 – June 20, 1884) was a United States representative from New York. Biography Born in New York City on March 17, 1815, Clarke was a member of one of the city's oldest and most prominent families. He graduated from Geneva College in 1835, studied law, and was admitted to the bar. From 1836 to 1840 he was attaché to Lewis Cass, United States Minister to France. While in France he was a student in the Royal Cavalry School. Upon returning to the United States, Clarke joined the United States Army, receiving a commission as a second lieutenant in the 8th Infantry in March, 1841. He transferred to the 2nd Dragoons in September, 1841. During his service Clarke took part in the Seminole Wars in Florida. Clarke resigned from the army in December, 1843 and practiced law in New York City and Westchester County. William Murray (October 1, 1803 – August 25, 1875) was an American banker and politician who served two terms as a United States representative from New York from 1851 to 1855. Biography Murray was born near Middletown, New York on October 1, 1803, a son of William Murray Sr. and Mary Ann (Beakes) Murray. His siblings included Ambrose S. Murray. Early career William Murray attended the common schools, and was employed as a clerk in mercantile establishments, first in Middletown, and later in New York City. He subsequently engaged in a successful mercantile career in Goshen. In 1844, he was chosen as one of New York's presidential electors, and cast his ballot for the Democratic ticket of James K. The Greenwood Union Cemetery is a cemetery in Rye and Harrison in Westchester County, New York. History The first cemetery on this site was established in 1837 and it was known as "Union Cemetery of Rye". James Parker and David Brooks of Rye donated of land to Christ's Church, Rye, with plots to be reserved for the ministers of the three churches of Rye and their families.
