Jared Poché
Jared Marcus Poché (born November 21, 1994) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Career Poché attended Lutcher High School in Lutcher, Louisiana. Lutcher won the Class 4A state championship in 2013. He enrolled at Louisiana State University (LSU) to play college baseball for the LSU Tigers. He had a 9–3 win–loss record and 2.45 earned run average (ERA) as a freshman for the Tigers. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and ''Collegiate Baseball'' named him a Freshman All-American in 2014. After the 2014 season, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Poché finished his junior year with a 9–4 record and a 3.35 ERA. The San Diego Padres selected Poché in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB draft. He decided to return to LSU for his senior season, turning down a $150,000 signing bonus. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. Changeup
A changeup is a type of pitch in baseball and fastpitch softball. The changeup is a staple off-speed pitch often used in a pitcher's arsenal, usually thrown to look like a fastball but arriving much more slowly to the plate. Its reduced speed coupled with its deceptive delivery is meant to confuse the batter's timing. It is meant to be thrown the same as a fastball, but farther back in the hand, which makes it release from the hand slower while still retaining the look of a fastball. A changeup is generally thrown to be 8–15 miles per hour slower than a fastball. If thrown correctly, the changeup will confuse the batter because the human eye cannot discern that the ball is coming significantly slower until it is around 30 feet from the plate. Stockton Ports
The Stockton Ports are a Minor League Baseball team of the California League and the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. They are located in Stockton, California, and are named for the city's seaport. The team plays its home games at Banner Island Ballpark which opened in 2005 and seats over 5,000 people. The Beloit Sky Carp are a Minor League Baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. They are located in Beloit, Wisconsin, and play their home games at ABC Supply Stadium. They previously played at Harry C. Pohlman Field from its opening in 1982 until moving into their current ballpark in August 2021. 2017 MLB Draft
The 2017 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft began on June 12, 2017. The draft assigned amateur baseball players to MLB teams. The first 36 picks, including the first round and compensatory picks, were broadcast on MLB Network on June 12, while the remainder of the draft was live streamed on MLB.com on June 13 and 14.
