Jared Brossett
Jared Christopher Brossett (born October 1982) was a member of the New Orleans City Council from February 2014 to January 2022 representing District D. He served as Chair of the New Orleans City Council's Budget, Audit and Board of Review Committee. He also served on the Transportation, Utilities, Government Affairs, Economic Development and Special Projects, and Community Development committees. Council member Brossett is also a member of the Louisiana Super Region Rail Authority and was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to the Task Force on Transportation and Infrastructure Investment. Biography Brossett is the son of Brenda M. Brossett and Elery Michael Brossett. New Orleans City Council
The New Orleans City Council is the legislative branch of the City of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The current mayor-council form of city government was created in 1954, following the 1950 amendment of the state constitution that provided for a home rule charter for the city. The 1954 Charter provided for seven members, five elected from single-member districts, and two elected at-large, replacing the 1912 Charter, which provided for a commission form of government with a mayor and four commissioners. The council members are elected to four-year terms, using the two-round system. The President and the Vice President of the Council are chosen by the council at its organizational meeting on the day members take office following the election. Louisiana Democratic Party
The Louisiana Democratic Party (french: Parti démocrate de Louisiane) is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the state of Louisiana. Dominated by the conservative planter elite through much of the 19th century, the party was historically prominent in politics since before the American Civil War. It struggled to regain power through Reconstruction, when the Republican Party became competitive due to support by most African Americans and many other Unionists. The Louisiana State Legislature (french: Législature d'État de Louisiane) is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Louisiana. Southern University at New Orleans (also known as SUNO) is a public historically black university in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is a member of the Southern University System and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. History Southern University was founded in New Orleans in 1880 and moved out of the city in 1914 due to logistical concerns as well as pressure from its White neighbors. SUNO was then founded as a branch of Southern by Act 28 of the Extraordinary Session of the Louisiana Legislature of September 4, 1956. On September 21, 1959, SUNO opened its doors on a 17-acre site located in historic Pontchartrain Park, a subdivision of primarily African American single-family residences in eastern New Orleans.
