Japan–Singapore Relations
Japan–Singapore relations or Singapore–Japan relations ( ja, 日本とシンガポールの関係 ) refers to the bilateral relations between Japan and Singapore, two highly developed Asian countries which share historical, economic, and political ties. While the two countries first established bilateral relations in 1966, some of the earliest relations date back from before the 15th century during the Muromachi period as well as the Ryukyu Kingdom. This continued for centuries until the most notable interaction with Japan's invasion of Singapore during World War II. The invasion led to a takeover of the country, after which Japan occupied Singapore for approximately four years before withdrawing following their loss in the war. The two countries now benefit from heavy mutual trade, formally established through the 2002 Japan–Singapore Economic Partnership Agreement (JSEPA), which was Japan's first ever economic partnership agreement with another country. Jun Yamazaki
is a Japanese diplomat and the current Ambassador of Japan to Singapore. He was formerly a United Nations Assistant Secretary-General at the Office of Programme Planning, Budget and Accounts, and Controller. He was appointed to the position by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in August 2008. Yamazaki worked the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a number of years. He was Counsellor in the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia. He also acted as deputy director in the United Nations Administration Division of the Multilateral Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this capacity, he was in charge of administrative and budgetary affairs of the United Nations. He later became Director of the International Peace Cooperation Division and Deputy Director-General for Global Issues in the International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan and served until August 2008. Republic Of Ezo
The was a short-lived separatist state established in 1869 on the island of Ezo, now Hokkaido, by a part of the former military of the Tokugawa shogunate at the end of the ''Bakumatsu'' period in Japan. Temasek
Temasek (also spelt Temasik) is an early recorded name of a settlement on the site of modern Singapore. The name appears in early Malay and Javanese literature, and it is also recorded in Yuan and Ming Chinese documents as ''Danmaxi'' ( or ). Two distinct settlements were recorded in Temasek – Long Ya Men and Ban Zu. The name is used in modern-day Singapore for national honours as well as institutions and corporations.
