Football is among the most popular sports in Japan, together with baseball, basketball, sumo and martial arts. Its nationwide organization, the Japan Football Association, administers the professional football leagues, including J.League, which is considered by many the most successful football league in Asia. Football Although the official English name of the Japan Football Association uses the term "football", the term ''sakkā'' (サッカー), derived from "soccer", is much more commonly used than ''futtobōru'' (フットボール). The JFA's Japanese name is ''Nippon Sakkā Kyōkai''. Before World War II the term in general use was ''shūkyū'' (蹴球, ''kick-ball''), a Sino-Japanese term. Tokyo Shukyu-dan
is a Japanese football club based in Tokyo. It is the oldest Japanese football club, founded in 1917, and it was the first to win the Emperor's Cup, the top national cup in Japan. Very much like Sheffield F.C. in England or Queen's Park F.C. in Scotland, its staunch amateur ideals forced it by the wayside as company clubs, and later fully professionalized clubs, took over the game. The Yokohama Country & Athletic Club is a sport and recreational club located in Yamate, Yokohama Kanagawa Prefecture. First founded in 1868 by Scottish cricketer James Pender Mollison (21 July 1844 – 22 November 1931) as the Yokohama Cricket Club. Imperial Japanese Navy Academy
The was a school established to train line officers for the Imperial Japanese Navy. It was originally located in Nagasaki, moved to Yokohama in 1866, and was relocated to Tsukiji, Tokyo in 1869. It moved to Etajima, Hiroshima in 1888. Students studied for three or four years, and upon graduation were ordered (warranted) as Midshipmen, commissioned to the rank of Ensign/Acting Sub-Lieutenant after a period of active duty and an overseas cruise. In 1943, a separate school for naval aviation was opened in Iwakuni, and in 1944, another naval aviation school was established in Maizuru. The Academy was closed in 1945, when the Imperial Japanese Navy was abolished. Admiral Sir Archibald Lucius Douglas, (8 February 1842 – 12 March 1913) was a Royal Navy officer of the 19th century. Naval career Douglas was born in Quebec City in pre-Confederation Canada in 1842. is a Japanese professional football club based in Kyoto.
