In horse racing in Japan, The Classics are a series of horse races run over the flat. Each classic is run once each year and is restricted to intact horses that are three years old (i.e., excluding geldings). Horse Racing
Horse racing is an equestrian performance sport, typically involving two or more horses ridden by jockeys (or sometimes driven without riders) over a set distance for competition. It is one of the most ancient of all sports, as its basic premise – to identify which of two or more horses is the fastest over a set course or distance – has been mostly unchanged since at least classical antiquity. Horse races vary widely in format, and many countries have developed their own particular traditions around the sport. American Classic Races
In the United States, the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing, commonly known as the Triple Crown, is a series of horse races for three-year-old Thoroughbreds, consisting of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. The three races were inaugurated in different years, the last being the Kentucky Derby in 1875. The Triple Crown Trophy, commissioned in 1950 but awarded to all previous winners as well as those after 1950, is awarded to a horse who wins all three races and is thereafter designated as a Triple Crown winner. The races are traditionally run in May and early June of each year, although global events have resulted in schedule adjustments, such as in 1945 and 2020. British Classic Races
The British Classics are five long-standing Group 1 horse races run during the traditional flat racing season. They are restricted to three-year-old horses and traditionally represent the pinnacle of achievement for racehorses against their own age group. As such, victory in any classic marks a horse as amongst the very best of a generation. Victory in two or even three of the series (a rare feat known as the Triple Crown) marks a horse as truly exceptional. Races The five British Classics are: It is common to think of them as taking place in three legs. The first leg is made up of the Newmarket Classics – 1000 Guineas and 2000 Guineas. Daring Tact ( ja, デアリングタクト, link=no, foaled 15 April 2017) is a champion Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing#Japan, Japanese Fillies Triple Crown in 2020. After winning her only race as a two-year-old, she won the Elfin Stakes on her three-year-old debut and went on to record Graded stakes race, Grade 1 victories in the Oka Sho, Yushun Himba and Shuka Sho to complete the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing#Japan, Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown. Almond Eye
Almond Eye (Japanese アーモンドアイ, foaled 10 March 2015) is a champion Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown in 2018, and holds a world record over 2,400 meters on turf. She is also a two-time winner of the Japan Cup, breaking the record in the 2018 race and defeating two other undefeated Japan Triple Crown winners in the 2020 race. Almond Eye was the 2018 Japanese Horse of the Year, 2018 Best Three-Year-Old Filly, 2020 Japanese Horse of the Year, and 2020 Best Older Filly or Mare. Gentildonna
is a retired Japanese thoroughbred racehorse. In 2012 she won the Japanese Fillies Triple Crown and was voted Japanese Horse of the Year. She was also the first three-year-old filly to win the Japan Cup, in 2012, and the following year became the first two-time winner of that race. In 2014 she added victories in the Dubai Sheema Classic and the Arima Kinen earning her a second Horse of the Year award. Background Gentildonna is a bay filly bred in Japan by the Northern Racing Co Ltd. She was sired by the outstanding Japanese racehorse Deep Impact out of the British mare Donna Blini. Apapane (horse)
Apapane ( ja, アパパネ, link=no, foaled 20 April 2007) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown in 2010. As a two-year-old in 2009 she won three of her four races including the Grade I Hanshin Juvenile Fillies and won the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Filly. In the following year she won the Oka Sho and Yushun Himba before completing the Triple Crown in the Shuka Sho and winning the JRA Award for Best Three-Year-Old Filly. In the following spring she won her fifth Grade I race when she defeated the Japanese Horse of the Year Buena Vista in the Victoria Mile. Still In Love (horse)
Still in Love, ( ja, スティルインラブ, link=no, 2 May 2000 – 2 August 2007) was a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. After winning her only race as a juvenile she became the best filly of her generation in Japan, winning the Oka Sho, Yushun Himba and Shuka Sho to complete the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown. She remained in training for two more years but failed to win again and was retired in 2005. She produced only one foal before dying at the age of seven in 2007. The Queen Elizabeth II Cup (''Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup'' until 2012) is an International Grade 1 flat horse race in Japan for three-year-old and above thoroughbred fillies and mares run over a distance of 2,200 metres (approximately 1 mile 3 furlongs) on the turf at Kyoto Racecourse in November.
