Japan National Wheelchair Rugby Team
The represents Japan in international wheelchair rugby. Japan is the third most successful team in the Asia-Oceania region, finishing outside the medal places only once in eight appearances at the IWRF Asia-Oceania Championship. Japan have won the tournament once, in 2015 and are also the 2014 Asian Para Games champions. They have reached four Wheelchair rugby at the Summer Paralympics, Summer Paralympics, with their best finish being 4th in the 2012 Summer Paralympics, 2012 Games in London. 2014 Asian Para Games
The 2014 Asian Para Games ( ko, 2014년 장애인 아시아 경기대회/2014년 장애인 아시안 게임, Icheon sibsa-nyeon jangaein Asia gyeonggi daehoe/Icheon sibsa-nyeon jangaein Asian Geim), also known as the 2nd Asian Para Games, was an Asian disabled multi-sport event held in Incheon, South Korea, from 18 to 24 October 2014, 2 weeks after the end of the 2014 Asian Games. This was the first time South Korea hosted the games. Around 4,500 athletes from 41 countries competed in the games which featured 443 events in 23 sports. The games was opened by the Prime Minister Chung Hong-won at the Incheon Munhak Stadium. The Great Britain national wheelchair rugby team represents Great Britain in international wheelchair rugby. Great Britain is the most successful team in European competition, winning six gold medals at the European Championship and a gold at the 2020 Paralympic Games. Wheelchair Rugby At The 2000 Summer Paralympics
Wheelchair Rugby at the 2000 Summer Paralympics was officially a mixed sport; however, no women participated. This was the first year that the sport was an official part of the Paralympic program. It had previously been a demonstration sport at the 1996 Paralympics. Eight teams took part in the competition. Medal summary Classification Wheelchair rugby players were given a classification based on their upper body function. A committee gave each athlete a 7-level score ranging from 0.5 to 3.5, with lower scores corresponding to more severe disability. During the game, the total score of all players on the court for a team cannot exceed 8 points. However, for each female player on court, their team gets an extra 0.5 points over the 8 point limit. Wheelchair Rugby At The 2014 Asian Para Games
Wheelchair rugby was one of the 23 sports featured at the 2nd Asian Para Games 2014, which took place in Incheon, South Korea on October 16–24, 2014. This was the first time that wheelchair rugby had been included at the Games, and was contested by four nations. The winners were Japan. Tournament Four teams contested the 2014 Asian Para Games Wheelchair Rugby tournament. The preliminary round consisted of a group stage where the teams were placed into a single league which was contested as a round-robin. All the teams faced each other twice. The two top teams of the league would then face each other to contest the gold and silver medals, whilst the bottom two teams would play to contest the bronze medal. New Zealand National Wheelchair Rugby Team
The Wheel Blacks are the national wheelchair rugby team of New Zealand. The team won the gold medal at the 2004 Paralympic games in Athens. The Wheel Blacks squad is made up from players from different regions around New Zealand. They include Auckland, Waikato, Bay Of Plenty, Manawatu, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago. Australia National Wheelchair Rugby Team
Wheelchair rugby is a sport with national representation at the Paralympic games. The Australian Team is known as the 'Steelers'. Australia has competed at every Paralympics Games since the sport gained full Paralympic Medal status at the 2000 Summer Paralympics. The Steelers also competed in the 1996 Summer Paralympics where wheelchair rugby was a demonstration sport. The 'Steelers' defeated Canada at the 2012 London Games to win its first gold medal. In 2014, it won its first World Championship by defeating Canada.
