Janzi Band, sometimes simply Janzi, is a Ugandan afro-fusion, contemporary and world music group formed on 27 August 2009 by Ssewa Ssewa and friends Abraham Sekasi, Jackson Kirya and Steven Oundo. The band has a hybrid repertoire of music, including notable covers as well as an original ethno-pop discography. The band has worked alongside a number of Ugandan musicians, including Lilian Mbabazi and A Pass. They are known for the creation of a new Ugandan harp-like instrument, the Janzi. Ssewa Ssewa
James Ssewakiryanga Junior, professionally known as Ssewa Ssewa, is a Ugandan live performing musician, multi – instrumentalist, founder of Janzi Band and inventor of Janzi, a musical instrument. Career Son of a traditional drummer and a dancer, Ssewa Ssewa has never had any professional training. His first instrument was a xylophone, taught by his mother. He started studying business at university, but after being encouraged and taught by members of his father's band, decided to pursue music. Ssewa Ssewa started playing music professionally in 2000. He co-founded Janzi Band along with his friends in 2009 and has been the director since then. He plays nine instruments, eight of them African, and is a professional percussionist. Giovanni Kiyingi
Giovanni Kiyingi, is a Ugandan folk singer-songwriter and world music artist. He is known for his skills as a multi-instrumentalist who plays the local Ugandan fiddle (endingidi), akogo, adungu, guitar, harmonica, flute, djembe, calabash, congas, drums, and maracas, among others. He was one of the Ugandan artists chosen to welcome Pope Francis to Uganda at Kololo on 27 November 2015. His skill as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and performer have won him invitations to perform at major music festivals and co-operative events in Uganda and the rest of the world. Jemimah Sanyu
Jemimah Sanyu, also known as the ''Stage Gladiator'', is a Ugandan musician, performer, producer, and voice coach. She has a commanding stage presence with a very strong voice. Sanyu has met people like President Yoweri Museveni while singing at the ''I am a Ugandan'' album premier. She has shared a stage with top African stars like Habib Koite, Navio, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo Band, and Juliana Kanyomozi. and many other African stars. Jackie Akello
Jackie Akello is a Uganda singer-songwriter and entrepreneur with a coffee brand Village Belle which she launched in 2017. She sings in Acholi, Luganda, Swahili, and English. She is known for her hit love ballad "Amari", the gospel hit "Samanya" with Levixone, and the war-themed pop hit "Apwoyo". Akello is an Acholi from northern Uganda, and most of her songs, like "Apwoyo" talk about the suffering of the Acholi both during and after the Lord's Resistance Army war that left Acholis out of their homes for a long time. Milege World Music Festival
The Milege World Music Festival or just Milege Festival is an annual music festival, happening every November, organized by Milege Afrojazz Band. The festival is a celebration of world music, games, cultural dances, stories, poems, and so on. Art pieces from the Repainting Uganda project are also displayed and sold during the festival. Suzan Kerunen
Suzan Kerunen (born 1979) is a Ugandan world music singer and songwriter who performs African contemporary music in the local Ugandan language of Alur-Jonam (her mother tongue) as well as in English, Swahili and other world languages. Luganda
The Ganda language or Luganda (, , ) is a Bantu language spoken in the African Great Lakes region.
