Shakti Bhatt Prize
The Shakti Bhatt Prize is a literary award established in 2007 in memory of Indian publisher, Shakti Bhatt. Between 2008 and 2019, it was awarded for first books published in India by an author of any age in the genres of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction and drama. From 2020 onward, the Prize has been awarded in recognition of a writer's body of work, instead of a first book. Establishment The Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize was established by an eponymous foundation in memory of Shakti Bhatt, an Indian publisher. Bhatt, the editor of Indian publishing house, Bracket Books, died following an illness in 2007. The Shakti Bhatt Foundation was established in her memory by her husband, Indian poet Jeet Thayil, along other friends and family; the foundation funds and manages the award. Stephanian School Of Literature
Stephanian School of Literature refers to a body of fictional works written in English, mostly novels written by the alumni of St. Stephen's College, Delhi. It can be called as a subgenre of Indian English literature but the validity of it is heavily debated among various critics. Brinda Bose's "Of Voids and Speculums; Or Where Is the Woman in the Text" is an essay that forcefully denies the existence of such a school of writing. Many other authors and scholars have discussed this in detail in various essays. Some authors defend the spirit of Stephania and state it does not matter whether or not there is such a school of literature, while others tend to celebrate the college. Amitav Ghosh, Rukun Advani, Mukul Kesavan and Shashi Tharoor are some famous Indian English writers who belong to the Stephanian School of Literature. Indian English literature (IEL), also referred to as Indian Writing in English (IWE), is the body of work by writers in India who write in the English language but whose native or co-native language could be one of the numerous languages of India. Its early history began with the works of Henry Louis Vivian Derozio and Michael Madhusudan Dutt followed by Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Aurobindo. R. K. Narayan, Mulk Raj Anand and Raja Rao contributed to the growth and popularity of Indian English fiction in the 1930s. Seamus Heaney Centre For Poetry
The Seamus Heaney Centre is located at Queen's University Belfast, and named after the late Seamus Heaney, recipient of the 1995 Nobel Prize in Literature. Heaney graduated from Queens in 1961 with a First Class Honours in English language and literature. It was officially opened in February 2004 and its founding director was the poet and Queen's graduate Ciaran Carson. Carson retired as director in 2016 and was replaced by Fran Brearton and then by Glenn Patterson. On 30 April 2009, it gave Heaney a 70th birthday party involving a literary evening. First Collection Poetry Prize The prize is awarded to a poet whose first collection of poetry has been published in the previous year by a UK- or Ireland-based publisher. Jeet Thayil (born 1959) is an Indian poet, novelist, librettist and musician. He is the author of several poetry collections, including ''These Errors Are Correct'' (2008), which won the Sahitya Akademi Award. His first novel, '' Narcopolis,'' (2012), won the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature, and was shortlisted for the 2012 Man Booker Prize and ''The Hindu'' Literary Prize.
