Jane Simpson (born 1965) is a British artist who lives and works in Carmarthenshire. She primarily produces sculptures, using diverse elements such as ice, silicone rubber, wood, precious metals, glass, ceramics and household objects including items bought at flea markets and on eBay. Early life and education Simpson was born in Swansea, Wales. She graduated from the Chelsea School of Art in London in 1988 and earned an MFA from the Royal Academy of Art in London in 1993. In 1994 she was included in the seminal exhibition ''Some Went Mad, Some Ran Away'', curated by Damien Hirst, at the Serpentine Gallery, London. Simpson's work was also part of the controversial ''Sensation'' exhibition of 1997. Artwork and career Simpson is well known for her sculptures, which involve various materials, from rubber casting techniques to sewing machines connected to refrigeration units so that they become covered with a layer of frost. Jane Simpson (linguist)
Jane Simpson is an Australian linguist and professor emerita at Australian National University. Simpson completed both a B.A. (Hons) and M.A. (1977) at The Australian National University. Her B.A. included majors in Chinese and English literature, with Honours in Middle English. Jane's PhD. was received from MIT in 1983, and her dissertation was a detailed study of Warlpiri in the Lexical-Functional Grammar framework. Simpson's research focuses on the Indigenous languages of Australia. She has worked extensively with the Warumungu language, and in this work assisted in setting up a language centre in Tennant Creek. She also helped to create the a digital archive of Aboriginal language material, which became ASEDA. This was during her time as a visiting fellow at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies. Jane Cross Simpson
Jane Cross Simpson (1811–1886) was a Scottish writer, known as a hymn-writer and poet. Life The daughter of James Bell, advocate, and sister to Henry Glassford Bell and Jonathan Anderson Bell, she was born Jane Cross Bell in Glasgow on 12 November 1811. Educated by her father, she studied the classics, and travelled much on the continent. For some years from 1822, her father was assessor and town-clerk of Greenock, and she contributed to the ''Greenock Advertiser'' under the pseudonym "Gertrude". After her husband's death, Jane Simpson resided with her married daughter, Mrs. Napier, at Portobello, Edinburgh, then Newport-on-Tay, and then Aberdeen. She died at Aberdeen on 17 June 1886. Works In 1831, as "Gertrude", Jane Bell wrote a noted hymn on prayer, ''Go when the morning shineth'', for the ''Edinburgh Literary Journal'', then edited by her brother Henry. Jane Simpson is the Head of Asset Creation at Severn Trent Water. She was the first woman to be Chief Engineer at Network Rail. Education Simpson grew up in Coventry. She was inspired to become an engineer when she made a light bulb work on the WISE Campaign bus in the 1980s. She was advised to consider a career in teaching or being a nursery nurse.
