Jane Nicholas
Jane Nicholas is a slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2009. Jane represented New Zealand from 2009 to 2018, before switching to the Cook Islands for the 2019 season, her father's country of birth. Career Nicholas made her international debut for New Zealand aged 16 at the 2009 Canoe Slalom World Cup, where she finished 26th in the overall ranking. At the Foix 2010 Junior World Championships Jane finished 14th in C1 and 40th in K1. At her final U23 World Championships at Foz do Iguaçu in 2015 she finished in 7th (K1 team), 16th (C1) and 29th (K1). At the end of the 2018 season Jane decided to switch her representation to the Cook Islands for a number of reasons including: support from both NOC's; being of Cook Islander heritage; and Luuka Jones' dominance of the sport in New Zealand. Te Puna
Te Puna is a rural community near Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located on State Highway 2, north of Bethlehem and south of Katikati. The local Te Puna Quarry has been redeveloped by volunteers into a park. Te Puna has three marae belonging to the Ngāti Ranginui hapū of Pirirākau: Paparoa Marae and Werahiko meeting house, Poutūterangi Marae and Takurua meeting house, and Tutereinga Marae and meeting house. Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification
This article details the canoeing at the 2020 Summer Olympics qualifying phase. Similar to 2012 and 2016 format, a qualification system has been set up for both slalom and sprint canoeing at these games. The quotas have already been set for each event by the International Canoe Federation in October 2018. Qualification summary Slalom For the slalom events, the men and women competed for each in C-1 and K-1. Qualifications were allocated to NOCs, not to specific competitors. NOCs were limited to one boat per event. Bryden Nicholas (born 10 March 1989 in Tauranga) is a New Zealand-Cook Islander slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2005. Ella Nicholas (born 15 December 1990 in Tauranga, New Zealand) is a Cook Islands slalom canoeist who has competed since 2007. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London she took part in the K1 event, finishing 18th in the heats, failing to qualify for the semifinals. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she finished 18th in the heats of the K1 event and did not qualify for the semifinals. Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Slalom C-1
The women's C-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 28 and 29 July 2021 at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course. 22 canoeists from 22 nations competed. The event was won by Jessica Fox from Australia, who already had three medals (one silver and two bronzes) in K-1 slalom from the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympics.
