Jane Lewis is a Scottish sports journalist and broadcaster, who was a sports presenter for ''Scotland Today'', STV Central's now-defunct regional news programme. Career Lewis joined ''Scotland Today'' in April 1999 after previous stints with BBC radio and Sky News. As a result of mass redundancies both in the newsroom and technical support division, Lewis, along with presenters Shereen Nanjiani and Sarah Heaney Sarah Heaney (born 19 May 1970) is a former Scottish television presenter. Life and career She began her TV career with Live TV as a news reporter, then went on to front ''S2 Live'' on the now defunct SMG digital channel S2. In early 2000 ... all took voluntary redundancy. Scotland Today
''Scotland Today'' is a Scottish regional news programme covering Central Scotland, produced by STV Central (formerly Scottish Television). Despite its name suggesting a national remit, the programme was actually limited to stories around STV's Central Belt franchise. ''North Tonight'' covered STV's North Scotland region (from North Fife upwards), until both programmes were renamed '' STV News at Six'' in March 2009. History 1970s Based in Glasgow, the programme began on 11 September 1972 in a style very similar to its BBC counterpart ''Reporting Scotland'' and co-anchored by John Toye and Bill Kerr Elliot. At first, the programme was double headed, but within a year, Toye became its solo presenter and went on to present ''Scotland Today'' for 12 years. STV (TV Network)
STV is a Scottish free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the STV Group. It is made up of the Central Scotland and Northern Scotland Channel 3 public broadcaster licences, formerly known as Scottish Television (now legally STV Central Ltd) and Grampian Television (now legally STV North Ltd) respectively. The STV brand refers to the on-air name used by Scottish Television for much of its history - notably in the 1970s and early 1980s. This brand remained in conversational use amongst the local public afterwards. The modern STV brand was adopted on Tuesday 30 May 2006 replacing both franchises' previous identities. The sense of continuity in the name was demonstrated when STV celebrated its 60th birthday in 2017, with special programmes broadcast on STV itself and the now defunct STV2. Shereen Nanjiani
Shereen Nanjiani (born 4 October 1961) is a Scottish radio presenter with BBC Radio Scotland. Before launching her radio career in 2006, Nanjiani was the chief news anchor at STV Central, having presented the news programme, ''Scotland Today'' since 1987. She is the first Asian-Scots presenter in Scotland and the longest serving female news presenter at STV. Early life Nanjiani was born in Elderslie, Scotland. She is a second cousin of the Pakistani-American comedian Kumail Nanjiani. Nanjiani worked on Hospital Radio Paisley for a short time in the late 1970s where she used to read some local news cuttings she had gathered during the week. Career STV Nanjiani earned a job as a trainee journalist in 1983 with STV. She was called in to present her first bulletin in 1987, when Sheena McDonald was ill. Sarah Heaney (born 19 May 1970) is a former Scottish television presenter. Life and career She began her TV career with Live TV as a news reporter, then went on to front ''S2 Live'' on the now defunct SMG digital channel S2. In early 2000 Heaney moved to newsreading on ''Scotland Today''. During this time, Heaney also presented, STV Magazine show "Room at the Top"/"Summer at the Top", which broadcast live from the top of Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow. Heaney also fronted ''Scottish Passport'' and ''Moviejuice'', a film show. In 2006 she took voluntary redundancy as part of major shake-up of ''Scotland Today''. Heaney presented live and recorded broadcast programmes. Heaney also had a beauty column in the Daily Mail and wrote occasionally for other publications.
