Jan Voerman
Jan Voerman (25 January 1857 – 25 March 1941), also known as Jan Voerman Sr., was a Dutch painter. Personal life Voerman was born in Kampen and died in Hattem. Voerman studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (English: State Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp under Charles Verlat. He admired the work of his contemporary George Hendrik Breitner. Around 1900, Voerman painted the clouds above the IJssel river. In Hattem, many of his works can be seen in the Voerman Museum Hattem ( ''nl''). He married Anna Henriette Gezina Verkade, daughter of Ericus Gerhardus Verkade–founder of the Verkade company in Zaandam–and Eduarda Thalia Koning, on 1 October 1889 in Amsterdam. Verkade was the sister of Jan Verkade, who at the end of the 1880s was Voerman's apprentice. Ericus Verkade
Ericus Gerhardus Verkade (20 November 1835 – 8 February 1907) was a Dutch businessman and the founder of the Verkade manufacturing company in 1886. Biography Ericus Gerhardus Verkade was born on 20 November 1835 in Vlaardingen in the Netherlands. He was named after his father, the notary Ericus Gerhardus Verkade Sr (1801–1835), who died one month before he was born. Verkade's mother, Geertruida van Gelder, was from Wormerveer and moved her family back to her birthplace shortly after Ericus Jr's birth. Soon after school, Verkade started a vegetable oil factory, which burned out in 1875. The next eight years he and his brother-in-law traded in grains. On 2 May 1886, he started a steam-powered bakery, which company he first named "De Ruyter" for the first mill in Zaandam that milled flour—the original "ruiter" ("chevalier") was on the company logo until 1994. The Drents Museum () is an art and history museum in Assen, Drenthe, in the Netherlands. The museum was opened in 1854. It has a collection of prehistorical artifacts, applied art, and visual art.
