Jan Pieter Theodoor Huydecoper
Jan Pieter Theodoor Huydecoper (2 September 1728 – 11 July 1767) was an administrator of the Dutch West India Company. He served as Director-General of the Dutch Gold Coast between 1759 and 1760 (ad interim) and from 1764 until his death in 1767. Biography Jan Pieter Theodoor Huydecoper was born in Hellevoetsluis to Adriaan Huydecoper (1693-1740), chief commissioner of the navy depot at Hellevoetsluis, the port of call of the Admiralty of the Maze, one of five constituent admiralties of the Dutch Navy, and Sara Maria van Asch van Wijk (1691-1728), who died in the year he was born. The young Huydecoper was then brought to his godparents, Pieter Theodoor van Herzeele and his wife, in Utrecht. After a scandal involving Mrs Van Herzeele, Huydecoper was taken to Amsterdam by his Aunt Sophia Huydecoper. He attended the French and Latin school in Amsterdam. Ussher Fort
Ussher Fort is a fort in Accra, Ghana. It was built by the Dutch in 1649 as Fort Crèvecœur, and is a day's march from Elmina and to the east of Accra on a rocky point between two lagoons. It was one of three forts that Europeans built in the region during the middle of the 17th century.The other two were Osu Castle (Fort Christiansborg; Danish, 1652) and Jamestown, Ghana ( Fort James; British, 1673). Fort Crèvecœur was part of the Dutch Gold Coast. The Anglo-Dutch Gold Coast Treaty (1867), which defined areas of influence on the Gold Coast, transferred it to the British in 1868. Jacob Huydecoper
Jacob Peter Huydecoper (11 November 1811 – 12 February 1845) was an early 19th-century Elmina Euro-African civil servant and diplomat on the Dutch Gold Coast. Early life Jacob Huydecoper was born in Elmina to Willem Huydecoper and a Fante woman named Akosewa Kombati. He was a member of the prominent Afro-European Huydecoper family, which traces its ancestor to Jan Pieter Theodoor Huydecoper, a Director-General of the Dutch Gold Coast in the 18th century. Career Huydecoper started his career in the colonial administration of the Dutch Gold Coast in July 1832, when he was installed as a provisional assistant at Elmina. He became a regular assistant on 15 December 1836. Huydecoper was charged with the recruitment of the so-called Belanda Hitam, Gold Coastan and Akan recruitments for the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army, at the Ashanti capital of Kumasi, between 1838 and 1842. Willem Huydecoper
Willem Huydecoper (November 1788 – 22 February 1826) was an important Euro-African merchant, politician, and diplomat on the Dutch Gold Coast in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Biography Willem Huydecoper was born in Elmina to Willem Pieter Cornelis Christiaan Huydecoper, son of Director-General Jan Pieter Theodoor Huydecoper, and Amba Quacoea, a Fante woman. He moved to Surinam, where he was christened on 16 March 1803. By 1809, Willem Huydecoper was back in Elmina, where he was installed as assistant in the colonial administration on 14 December of the said year. He was promoted to first assistant with the titular rank of second lieutenant on 15 August 1815, to second resident of Fort San Sebastian at Shama on 6 October 1816, and finally to commandant of the same fort on 31 August 1819. Axim
Axim is a coastal town and the capital of Nzema East Municipal district, a district in Western Region of South Ghana. Axim lies 64 kilometers west of the port city of Sekondi-Takoradi in the Western Region, west of Cape Three Points. Axim has a 2013 settlement population of 27,719 people. Fort Saint Anthony (Portuguese: ''Forte de Santo António''; Dutch: ''Fort Sint Anthony'') was a fort built by the Portuguese in 1515 near the town of Axim, in what is now Ghana.
