Jan De Voogd
Jan de Voogd (13 September 1924 – 25 June 2015) was a Dutch politician, he served as member of the House of Representatives for the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy between 1977 and 1981. He was also active in politics in his native province of Zeeland, serving as member of the States of Zeeland between June 1974 and March 1991 and concurrently as member of the Provincial-Executive from 1982 to March 1991. Career De Voogd was born on 13 September 1924 in Veere, Zeeland. He followed his secondary education at the Hogere Burgerschool in Middelburg. In the 1940s he worked several years for the municipality of Veere. Starting in 1946 he worked for the government employment office, first ten years in Middelburg and subsequently ten years as director of the Vlissingen office. The Order of the Netherlands Lion, also known as the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands ( nl, De Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, french: L'Ordre du Lion Néerlandais) is a Dutch order of chivalry founded by King William I of the Netherlands on 29 September 1815. The Order of the Netherlands Lion was until recently awarded to eminent individuals from all walks of life, including generals, ministers of the crown, mayors of large towns, professors and leading scientists, industrialists, high-ranking civil servants, presiding judges and renowned artists. Since 1980 the Order has been primarily used to recognise merit in the arts, science, sport and literature; others are awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau. A knight is a person granted an honorary title of knighthood by a head of state (including the Pope) or representative for service to the monarch, the church or the country, especially in a military capacity. The ''Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant'' is a newspaper for the province of Zeeland, Netherlands published and owned by DPG Media of Belgium. Founded in 1758, it is the third-oldest newspaper of the Netherlands. History 19th century: Middelburgsche Courant The paper is a merger of a number of regional papers, the oldest of which was the ''Middelburgsche Courant'', founded in 1758 in Middelburg.
