Rosice
Rosice (; german: Rossitz) is a town in Brno-Country District in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 6,500 inhabitants. Geography Rosice is located about southwest of Brno. It lies in the Boskovice Furrow. The Bobrava River flows through the town. History The first written mention of Rosice is from 1259. The most prominent owners of the manor were the Zierotins, who acquired it in 1562 and built a castle here. In 1907, Rosice was promoted to a town by Franz Joseph I of Austria. Demographics Sport The local football club FC Slovan Rosice plays in the Moravian-Silesian Football League (3rd tier of the Czech football league system). Sights Rosice Castle is the main sight in the town. It was built in the Renaissance style in 1570–1579 and replaced an old medieval fortress from the 13th century. All elections in the Czech Republic are based on the principle of universal suffrage. Any adult citizen who is at least 18 years old can vote, except those who have been stripped of their legal capacities by a court, usually on the basis of mental illness. Elected representatives are elected directly by the citizens without any intermediaries. Election laws are not part of the constitution, but – unlike regular laws – they cannot be changed without the consensus of both houses of the Parliament. The Czech Republic uses a two-round plurality voting system for the presidential and Senate elections and an open party-list proportional representation system for all other elections. The proportional representation system uses the D'Hondt method for allocating seats. Elections are usually held over two days, from 14:00 to 22:00 on Friday and then from 8:00 to 14:00 on Saturday. The Civic Democratic Party ( cs, Občanská demokratická strana, ODS) is a liberal-conservative and soft eurosceptic political party in the Czech Republic. It holds 34 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, and is the second strongest party by number of seats following the 2021 election. It is the only political party in the Czech Republic that has always been represented in the Chamber of Deputies. Founded in 1991 as the pro-free market wing of the Civic Forum by Václav Klaus and modeled on the British Conservative Party, the ODS won the 1992 legislative election, and has remained in government for most of the Czech Republic's independence. In every legislative election (except for that of 2013) it emerged as one of the two strongest parties.
