Betwa River
The Betwa (Hindi: बेतवा, Sanskrit: वेत्रवती) is a river in Central and Northern India, and a tributary of the Yamuna. It rises in the Vindhya Range (Raisen) just north of Narmadapuram in Madhya Pradesh and flows northeast through Madhya Pradesh and Orchha to Uttar Pradesh. Nearly half of its course, which is not navigable, runs over the Malwa Plateau. The confluence of the Betwa and the Yamuna rivers is in Hamirpur district in Uttar Pradesh. Madanpur is a census town in Kalyani Community Development Block in the Kalyani subdivision of the Nadia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. History In the middle of the eighteenth century when the railways were yet to come to Bengal, the present day area of Madanpur (situated on the bank of river Ganges) was full of grassland. The current station area was located entirely in the river bed. People started to reside here after 1750. The origins of the name 'Madanpur' maybe traced to a popular myth in which ''Thakur Madangopal'' who accompanied with ''Sri Radha'' took rest at this place on their way to Krishnanagar. Orchha is a town, near city of Niwari in Niwari district of Madhya Pradesh state, India. The town was established by rajput ruler Rudra Pratap Singh some time after 1501, as the seat of an eponymous former princely state of covering parts of central & north India, in the Bundelkhand region. Orchha lies on the Betwa River, 80 km from Tikamgarh & 15 km from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. It is included in the UNESCO world heritage cities list in 2020.
