Jamnalal Bajaj Award
Jamnalal Bajaj Award is an Indian award, for promoting Gandhian values, community service and social development. Established in 1978, by the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation of Bajaj Group, it is given annually in four categories, and usually presented by the President, Vice president, Prime Minister of India or a leading figure. The foundation currently headed by Rahul Bajaj, was created in 1977, in the memory of group founder, philanthropist and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, Jamnalal Bajaj. The award ceremony takes place on his birth anniversary, November 4. Awards The award comprises a citation, a trophy and a cheque of Rs Ten lakh each. Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation
Jamnalal Kaniram Bajaj (4 November 1889 – 11 February 1942) was an Indian industrialist. He founded the Bajaj Group of companies in the 1920s, and the group now has 24 companies, including six that are listed on the bourses. He was also a close and beloved associate of Mahatma Gandhi, who is known to have often declared that Jamnalal was his fifth son. Background and early life Jamnalal Bajaj was born in 1889 into a well to do Agarwal family, as the third son of Kaniram and Birdibai, in a village named Kashi Ka Bas, near Sikar, Rajasthan. Tagaduru Ramachandra Rao (1898 – c. 1989) was a veteran freedom fighter and social activist from Karnataka (erstwhile Mysore state), noted as the founder of Swarajya Mandir and Satyagraha Ashram at Tagadur village in Mysore district in 1921. Biography Ramachandra Rao was born in a Halenadu Karnataka Brahmin family in a place called Tagaduru which is in Nanjangud Taluk of Mysore district. Gokulbhai Daulatram Bhatt (19 February 1898 – 6 October 1986) born in Hathal (Sirohi) was a freedom fighter and a social worker from Rajasthan state in India. He was a member of Constituent Assembly of India representing Bombay State and chief minister of princely Sirohi state for a brief period. He along with seven others founded Praja Mandal at Sirohi on 22 January 1939 and was an active independence activist from Sirohi and was detained and put in jail for some time by British. Amalprava Das, also known as Amal Prabha Das, (1911–1994) was an Indian social worker, Gandhian and the founder of ''Kasturba Ashram'' at Sarania Hills, Assam, a self help group for women and their economic upliftment and ''Guwahati Yubak Sevadal'', a non governmental organization working for the social development of harijans. The Government of India honoured her in 1954, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award for her contributions to the society, placing her among the first recipients of the award. Kamalabai Hospet also known as (Kamalatai Hospet) (1896–1981) was a co-founder of Matru Sewa Sangh, a non-profit social organisation based in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. Together with Venutai Nene (1896–1973), she founded Matru Sewa Sangh in 1921. In 1971, she also co-founded Vidya Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, which now has more than fifty educational institutes. Anil Sadgopal is an Indian educationist and activist, known for the Hoshangabad Science Teaching Programme and for advocacy related to the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
