James William Reid
James William Reid (May 30, 1859 – October 30, 1933) was a physician and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Hants County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1911 to 1925 as a Liberal member. He was born in Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, the son of Robert Reid and Mary A. Archibald, of United Empire Loyalist descent. He was educated at Dalhousie University and set up practice in Hants County. In 1891, Reid married Mary Falconer. He served on the town council. Reid was also president of the Colchester-Hants Counties Medical Society and of the Hants County Temperance Alliance. The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election. Middle Musquodoboit is a rural community in the Musquodoboit Valley region of Nova Scotia, Canada within the Halifax Regional Municipality, along the Musquodoboit River at the junction of Route 357 with Route 224, from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. United Empire Loyalists (or simply Loyalists) is an honorific title which was first given by the 1st Lord Dorchester, the Governor of Quebec, and Governor General of The Canadas, to American Loyalists who resettled in British North America during or after the American Revolution. At the time, the demonym ''Canadian'' or ''Canadien'' was used to refer to the indigenous First Nations groups and the descendants of New France settlers inhabiting the Province of Quebec. They settled primarily in Nova Scotia and the Province of Quebec. The influx of loyalist settlers resulted in the creation of several new colonies. Windsor is a community located in Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a service centre for the western part of the county and is situated on Highway 101. The community has a history dating back to its use by the Mi'kmaq Nation for several millennia prior to European colonization. David Allison (college President)
David Allison (July 3, 1836 – February 13, 1924) was a Canadian professor, administrator and author. He was president both of Mount Allison College and later of Mount Allison University from 1869 to 1878 and from 1891 to 1911, respectively. He was born in Newport, Nova Scotia, the son of James Whidden Allison and Margaret Elder. He was educated at the Dalhousie Collegiate School (later Dalhousie University), at the Wesleyan Academy in Sackville, New Brunswick, founded by Charles Frederick Allison, and at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, from which he received a B.A. in 1859 and an M.A. three years later. Allison married Elizabeth Powell in 1862; she died in 1898. Also in 1862, he became a professor of classics at Mount Allison College. He succeeded Humphrey Pickard as president of the college in 1869. A nova (plural novae or novas) is a transient astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star (hence the name "nova", which is Latin for "new") that slowly fades over weeks or months.
