James Wheeler (cricketer)
James Anthony Wheeler (10 April 1913 – 30 August 1977) was an English cricketer. Wheeler was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Lacock, Wiltshire. Biography He was born on 10 April 1913. Wheeler made his debut in county cricket for Wiltshire in the 1932 Minor Counties Championship against the Surrey Second XI. From 1932 to the start of World War II in 1939, Wheeler made 22 appearances for the county in the Minor Counties Championship. Following the war, he played Minor counties cricket for Wiltshire from 1947 to 1955, making an additional making 43 further appearances, the last of which came against the Kent Second XI. In 1949, he made his only appearance in first-class cricket for a combined Minor Counties team against Yorkshire at Lord's. Lacock
Lacock is a village and civil parish in the county of Wiltshire, England, about 3 miles (5 km) south of the town of Chippenham, and about outside the Cotswolds area. The village is owned almost in its entirety by the National Trust and attracts many visitors by virtue of its unspoiled appearance. The parish includes Bowden Hill, a small village to the east of Lacock, and the hamlets of Bewley Common, Notton and Reybridge. Minor Counties Of English And Welsh Cricket
The National Counties, known as the Minor Counties before 2020, are the cricketing counties of England and Wales that do not have first-class status. The game is administered by the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), which comes under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). There are currently twenty teams in National Counties cricket: nineteen representing historic counties of England, plus the Wales National County Cricket Club. Fred Trueman
Frederick Sewards Trueman, (6 February 1931 – 1 July 2006) was an English cricketer who played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the England cricket team. He had professional status and later became an author and broadcaster. Acknowledged as one of the greatest bowlers in cricket's history, Trueman deployed a genuinely fast pace and was widely known as "Fiery Fred". He was the first bowler to take 300 wickets in a Test career. Together with Brian Statham, he opened the England bowling for many years and they formed one of the most famous bowling partnerships in Test cricket history. Trueman was an outstanding fielder, especially at leg slip, and a useful late order batsman who made three first-class centuries. Ellis Robinson (cricketer)
Ellis Pembroke Robinson (10 August 1911 – 10 November 1998) was an English first-class cricketer who took over 1,000 first-class wickets for Yorkshire from 1934 to 1949, and Somerset from 1950 to 1952. Early life Robinson was born in Denaby Main, Conisbrough, near Doncaster, Yorkshire. His Christian names, Ellis Pembroke, derived from his mother, a cockney housemaid who worked for a Cambridgeshire family called Ellis Merry who was a college servant at Pembroke College. "My mum had played cricket on Parker's Piece, where Jack Hobbs had played, and I can't remember when I didn't play the game," he told Nigel Pullan in an interview in 1996. First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all.
