James Todd (lawyer)
James Todd (December 25, 1786 – September 3, 1863) was a Pennsylvania lawyer and judge, who served in the state legislature and as state Pennsylvania Attorney General, Attorney General. Biography and career Todd was born in 1786, son of Henry and Mary Todd, of Scottish descent. Early in 1787, the family moved to Fayette County, Pennsylvania, Fayette County, and both his parents died that year. Todd was raised by one Duncan McLean. His official schooling was limited to one and a half years, but he read extensively at night. Todd served as county commissioner 1815–1819, during which time he read law under John Bouvier. He served as a representative in the state legislature, 1819–1829. He was admitted to the bar in 1823. Todd married Mary Cornell in 1810; she died in 1824. They had three children. Pennsylvania Attorney General
The Pennsylvania Attorney General is the chief law enforcement officer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It became an elected office in 1980. The current Attorney General is Democrat Josh Shapiro. On August 15, 2016, then-Attorney General Kathleen Kane was convicted of criminal charges, including conspiracy, perjury, and obstruction of justice, and announced her resignation the following day, effective August 17. Consequently, as the Solicitor General, Bruce Castor assumed the office as Acting Attorney General. Governor Tom Wolf nominated Bruce Beemer to serve out the remaining balance of Kane's term which expired in January 2017. Democrat Josh Shapiro succeeded Beemer. Following Shapiro's 2022 election as Governor, he will appoint his successor as Attorney General.
