James Thomas (Australian Politician)
James Henry Thomas (2 March 1826 – 16 July 1884) was a civil engineer who was Director of Public Works in Western Australia from 1876 to 1884. Born in London, England on 2 March 1826, James Thomas was educated at University College School between 1835 and 1839, then attended University College. In 1879 he became a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and was then articled to Evans and Sons. For two years he was superintendent of gun machinery for the arsenal at Trubia, Spain. He then spend several years as engineer to the Imperial Gas Company at Vauxhall. In 1852, Thomas emigrated to New South Wales, where he was appointed resident engineer for the dry dock at Cockatoo Island Dockyard in Sydney. He held the position until 1857, when he was appointed inspector of government railways for New South Wales. Later, he was put in charge of arrangements for the 1868 visit of the Duke of Edinburgh. Major James Francis Thomas (25 July 1861 – 11 November 1942), was a solicitor from Tenterfield, New South Wales. As Major Thomas, he defended Lieutenants Peter Joseph Handcock, George Ramsdale Witton, and Harry "Breaker" Morant, of the Bushveldt Carbineers (BVC) of the British Army, in their trial for the murder of nine Boer prisoners-of-war during the Second Boer War. Education He was educated at The King's School, Parramatta, and at the University of Sydney. Law He served as an articled clerk in a reputable Sydney law practice. James Havard Thomas
James Havard Thomas (22 December 1854 – 6 June 1921) was a Bristol-born sculptor active in London and Capri. He became the first Chair of Sculpture at the Slade School of Art in London. He was known for his painstakingly precise sculptures resulting from elaborate and time-consuming processes for achieving sculptural realism. He emerged from the same roots as the "New Sculpture" in Britain, and his career runs parallel to (and in dialogue with) that movement. Biography Thomas was born in Bristol, at 16 St Michael's Hill in 1872. He first studied at the Bristol School of Art, then at the South Kensington School of Art. James Thomas (born 4 September 1918) was Dean of Saint Paul's Cathedral, Wellington from 1978 to 1985. Thomas was born on 4 September 1918 in Wales. He was educated at St David's College, Lampeter and Selwyn College, Cambridge; and ordained in 1942 or 1943 (sources differ). After curacies in Amroth and Laugharne he was a Chaplain to the British Armed Forces during World War II. When peace returned, he served a further curacy at Braunton and held incumbencies at Thornthwaite (England), Kensington (New Zealand), Otipua, Riccarton and Auckland. James Samuel Thomas (April 8, 1919 – October 10, 2010) was an American bishop in The Methodist Church (now The United Methodist Church). When elected in 1964, he was one of the youngest Methodist bishops. Gerald Kennedy was age 40 when he was elected in the mid-1940s. His first appointment as Bishop was in Iowa, where he served from 1964 to 1976, becoming the first black bishop of the North Central Jurisdiction of The Methodist Church. He last served as the Resident Bishop of the East Ohio Conference of The United Methodist Church from 1976 until 1988, retiring in 1988. James S. Thomas wrote the book "Methodism's Racial Dilemma. Jim "Long Gone" Thomas (December 18, 1938 – October 4, 2015) was an American gridiron football player and coach. He played professionally as a running back for nine seasons in the Canadian Football League CFL) with the Edmonton Eskimos. Thomas ran for 6,161 yards in his CFL career and was a two-time CFL All-Star. He signed to the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL) in 1970 for a five-game trial, but returned to Edmonton. Thomas holds the record for the three longest rushing touchdowns in Eskimos history—a 104-yard run on October 9, 1965 against the BC Lions, a 100-yard run on August 2, 1966 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and a 97-yard run on September 4, 1964 against the Ottawa Rough Riders. James Thomas (born 5 June 1997) is an English footballer who plays as a defender for One Knoxville in USL League One. Career Early career & college Thomas played with non-league side Farnham Town from 2015, until receiving a scholarship to play college soccer in the United States in the summer of 2016. In 2016, he arrived at Young Harris College, going on to make 50 appearances for the Mountain Lions over three seasons. He finished with eleven assists to his name and was named All-Peach Belt Conference second team in 2018. In 2019, Thomas transferred to the University of New Hampshire. He played one final season of college soccer with the Wildcats, making 17 appearances. During his 2017 season, Thomas also appeared in the USL PDL with Peachtree City MOBA.
