James Swarbrick
James Swarbrick (16 May 1880 – March 1970) was a footballer who played in the English Football League. Career Swarbrick started his career with Blackpool Red Star, Marton Combination, and Blackpool Etrurians before joining Blackburn Rovers in November 1901. Rovers finished fourth in the First Division in 1901–02, with Swarbrick playing 15 league games. He then joined Brentford, a club struggling in the Southern League, before signing with Grimsby Town of the Football League Second Division. He played 67 league games for the "Mariners", scoring 12 goals, before moving on to Oldham Athletic in 1907. He played for Oldham in 1907–08, their first Football League campaign, in which they posted a third-place finish, just two points behind the promotion places. He scored twice in four league games for Oldham before moving on to Southport Central, a return to Brentford and then Stoke. Brentford is a suburban town in West London, England and part of the London Borough of Hounslow. It lies at the confluence of the River Brent and the Thames, west of Charing Cross. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. The FAW Welsh Cup ( cy, Cwpan Cymdeithas Pêl-droed Cymru), currently known as the JD Welsh Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knock-out football competition contested annually by teams in the Welsh football league system. It is considered the most prestigious of the cup competitions in domestic Welsh association football. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is the organising body of this competition, which has been run (except during the two World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic) every year since its inception in 1877–78. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup. The Staffordshire Senior Challenge Cup is a football cup tournament based in the county of Staffordshire in England first competed for in 1877–78. Organised by the Staffordshire Football Association, it is competed for by a mix of clubs from Staffordshire and the surrounding areas. Both professional and amateur clubs may enter. In the modern age however professional teams such as Stoke City and Port Vale, the main clubs in Staffordshire, usually field a reserve team as they place more prestige on their respective leagues and professional cup competitions.
