James Stirton
James Stirton (1833, Coupar Angus, Perthshire – 14 January 1917, Glasgow) was a Scottish physician and one of Scotland's leading experts on cryptogamic botany. His investigations in bryology and lichenology earned him a world-wide reputation. Biography Stirton taught mathematics from 1856 to 1858 at the Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh. At the University of Edinburgh he graduated in 1857 L.R.C.P.Edin and in 1858 M.D.Edin. Soon after acquiring his M.D. he moved to Glasgow and established an extensive practice in obstetrics and gynaecology. In 1876 Stirton was appointed a lecturer in gynaecology at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where for many years he had charge of the gynaecological wards. In 1889 he became a professor of midwifery at Anderson’s College Medical School and held the professorship for about fifteen years. Stirton made many visits to the Scottish mountains to investigate lichens and mosses and there discovered numerous species that were previously undescribed. ...

Coupar Angus
Coupar Angus (; Scottish Gaelic, Gaelic: ''Cùbar Aonghais'') is a town in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, south of Blairgowrie and Rattray, Blairgowrie. The name Coupar Angus serves to differentiate the town from Cupar, Fife. The town was traditionally on the border between Angus, Scotland, Angus and Perthshire, the town centre being in Perthshire. The Angus part was transferred to Perthshire in 1891, but the town retained its name. It is located on the A94 road, A94 Perth, Scotland, Perth-Forfar road, although the town centre itself is now bypassed. Coupar Angus railway station previously served the town. History The six-storey Tolbooth was built in 1762, funded by public subscription. In the Middle Ages the Cistercian Coupar Angus Abbey was one of Scotland's most important monasteries, founded by Malcolm IV (1153–65) in the 1160s. Kantvilas
Gintaras Kantvilas (born 1956) is an Australian lichenologist, who earned his Ph.D in 1985 from the University of Tasmania with a thesis entitled ''Studies on Tasmanian rainforest lichens''. He has authored over 432 species names, and 167 genera in the field of mycology. Kanvilas completed his secondary education at St Virgil's College in Hobart in 1973. In 1985, he was working for the Tasmanian National Parks and Wildlife Service. In 1987 he was listing his affiliation as Department of Botany, University of Tasmania, in addition to the Tasmanian National Parks and Wildlife Service. By 2001 his affiliation was listed as the Tasmanian Herbarium, and this has continued until at least 2018. The lichen genus, '' Kantvilasia'', is named in his honour. ''Menegazzia stirtonii'' is a species of foliose lichen found in New Zealand, and Tasmania, Australia. It was first described as ''Parmelia stirtonii'' in 1929 by Alexander Zahlbruckner.
