James Stewart (athlete)
James Daniel Stewart (December 6, 1906 – January 20, 1991) was an American decathlete. He competed at the 1928 Summer Olympics and finished fourth. He placed second at the AAU championships in 1928 and 1930 and fourth in 1927. Barstow, Texas
Barstow is a city in Ward County, in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 349 at the 2010 census. History Barstow was organized in 1892 by George E. Barstow, who was one of the world's leading experts on irrigation. The same year Barstow was elected First Ward County Seat. A courthouse was built the following year, and by 1900 the city's population was over 1,000 due to the recruiting efforts of Mr. Barstow. Irrigation was successful enough that in the 1904 World's Fair, Barstow managed to win a Silver Medal for its grapes. That same year fruit and vegetable farming was hit hard when the Pecos River Dam broke. After that droughts followed and by 1918 farming was impossible. The population in 1930 was 468—less than half of the 1910s 1,219. Geography Barstow is located at (31.462523, –103.395426). Sweetwater, Texas
Sweetwater is a municipality in and the seat of Nolan County, Texas, United States. It is 123 miles southeast of Lubbock and 40 miles west of Abilene, Texas. Its population was 10,906 at the 2010 census. History The town's name "Sweetwater" is the English translation of the Kiowa language word "Mobeetie". Sweetwater received a U.S. post office in 1879. The Texas and Pacific Railway started service in 1881, with the first train arriving on March 12 of that year, beginning Sweetwater's long history as a railroad town. To encourage the railroads, Sweetwater increased its water supply by building a small town lake called City Lake in 1898 (now called Newman Park), then three larger lakes were constructed thereafter. Construction began on the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway in 1903. The USC Trojans are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Southern California (USC), located in Los Angeles, California.
