James Short (footballer)
John James Short (April 1896 – after 1927) was an English professional footballer who scored 20 goals in 48 appearances in the Football League playing for Birmingham, Watford and Norwich City. He played as an inside forward or centre forward. Short was born in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. During the First World War, he played for Lincoln City and Notts County; he scored 20 goals in 42 wartime games for the latter and was highly rated. After the war he joined Birmingham of the Football League Second Division, for whom he scored on his debut on 1 November 1919, in a 2–1 win at West Ham United, and followed up with another seven goals in the next six games.Matthews, p. 162. James Short (rugby Union)
James Short (born 15 October 1989) is an English rugby union player. He plays at Wing for Exeter Chiefs in the Aviva Premiership. He was educated at Tonbridge School in Kent. Club career Short arrived at Saracens in 2007. The 2010-2011 season was really Short's breakthrough season for the Saracens team. He played regularly in the Saracens team and got a reputation for being a prolific try scorer and was the top try scorer for Saracens. Short also scored the only try in the 2011 Aviva Premiership Final helping Saracens to win their first ever Premiership final in a 22-18 victory over Leicester Tigers. Overall in the season Short made 24 appearances and scored 13 tries. At the end of the 2013/14 season he joined London Irish. 1960 United States Figure Skating Championships
The 1960 U.S. Figure Skating Championships was held at the Civic Ice Arena in Seattle from January 27 through 30, 1960. Medals were awarded in three colors: gold (first), silver (second), and bronze (third) in four disciplines – men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. The event determined the U.S. teams for the 1960 Winter Olympics and 1960 World Championships. Senior results In the men's, ladies', and pairs' divisions, the competitions were won by the defending champions, while the vacant dance title was won by the previous year's silver medalists. Men Tim Brown won the compulsory figures competition over David Jenkins, but Jenkins responded with a superior free skating that included two triple jumps. James Short (mathematician)
James Short FRS (10 June O.S. (21 June N.S.) 1710 – 14 June 1768) was a Scottish mathematician and manufacturer of optical instruments, principally telescopes. During his 35-year career as a telescope-maker he produced approximately 1,360 scientific instruments. Early life and education Short was born in Edinburgh in 1710 to Margaret Grierson and William Short, a carpenter. When he was orphaned at about the age of 10, he was accepted into the Heriot's Hospital, an orphanage, and at 12 transferred to the Royal High School where he excelled in the study of the classics. In 1726 he entered the University of Edinburgh to study divinity, however after being inspired by lectures given by professor of mathematics Colin Maclaurin, he transferred to astronomy and mathematics. James Robert Short (born 7 December 1936) is a former Australian public servant, politician and diplomat. He was an assistant secretary in the Department of the Treasury before winning election to the House of Representatives as a Liberal at the 1975 federal election. He was defeated in 1980 but transferred to the Senate in 1984, serving until 1997. He briefly served as Assistant Treasurer in the Howard Government in 1996, and after leaving politics worked at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and as Australia's special envoy to Cyprus. James Allan Short, OBE, FRSAMD (4 April 1928 – 13 April 2001), known professionally as Jimmy Logan, was a Scottish performer, theatrical producer, impresario and director. Family Logan was born in Dennistoun, Glasgow, a member of a family of entertainers; the tradition began with his parents (Jack Short and Mary Dalziel "May" Allan) who were the music hall act Short and Dalziel. His aunt, from whom he took his stage surname, was Broadway performer Ella Logan. He had four siblings including actress/singer Annie Ross.
